If you're reading this, then congratulations. Welcome to the fourth generation of Pokémon. This set delves right into the world of Diamond and Pearl, a new land called Sinooh. More specifically, the Pokémon native to this new land.

Although there are no new types, there are combinations of types you've never seen before, such as Grass/Ground, Water/Steel, Fighting/Steel, and Poison/Dark. There are also new evolution methods, such as levelling up while holding an item, levelling up in a certain location, branched evolution based on gender, and so on and so forth.

In addition to completely new evolution lines, some of the evolution lines of the past have some new links. A few Pokémon, such as Chimecho and Mantine, now have a pre-evolution. A few other Pokémon, such as Aipom, Murkrow, and Misdreavus, now have an evolution. Roselia now has both a pre-evolution AND an evolution--the first time in Pokémon history where a previous-generation Pokémon went from a one-stage line in one generation to a three-stage one in the next. The Pokémon in this set that are from previous generations consist only of those that got pre-evolutions and/or evolutions in the fourth generation--for example, don't expect to see the likes of, say, Banette or Jynx in this set since they didn't get new links like their natural counterparts did (Banette's counterpart, Dusclops, got an evolution while Banette didn't; Jynx's counterparts, Electabuzz and Magmar, each got an evolution while Jynx didn't).

The land of Sinooh, like the lands of the previous generations, has its own Pokémon Professor, this one a man by the name of Rowan. Two new rivals, eight new gym leaders, its own Elite Four and Champion, and a new evil team are all present in the biggest Pokémon adventure to date. Sinooh also boasts 14 new legendary Pokémon, ranging from a trio of Psychic-type pixies to the Normal-type real Pokégod!

A note on the different forms of two different Pokémon lines:

Burmy comes in three different forms; Grass, Sand, and Steel. It changes form when it faints in different locations. While Burmy is pure Bug in all of its forms with the same stats and movepool, the form a female Burmy is in when it evolves determines which form of Wormadam it becomes (and stays in). If it's the Grass form, it becomes a Bug/Grass Pokémon. If it's in the Sand form, it becomes a Bug/Ground Pokémon. Finally, if it's in the Steel form, it becomes a Bug/Steel Pokémon. Each of Wormadam's forms is pretty much a different Pokémon in terms of stats and movepool. Note that only female Burmy can take on the different Wormadam forms, male Burmy evolve into the Bug/Flying Mothim no matter what form it's in. Anyway, the only way you can tell which form a Burmy is in is by looking at it, which means a cardmaker should have a note somewhere about the form. Wormadam, however, you can tell which form it is by its Resistance. A Grass-form will have a {W} Resistance, a Sand-form will have a {L} Resistance, and a Steel-form will have a {G} Resistance.

Shellos (pure Water) and Gastrodon (Water/Ground) come in two different forms, but it's stuck in the form you got it in. The types and stats are the same in each evolution stage no matter the form it's in. The Pokémon are pink if you catch them in the western half of Sinooh, but they're blue if you catch them in the eastern half of the country instead. The only way you can tell which form a Shellos or Gastrodon is in is by looking at it, which means a cardmaker should have a note somewhere about the form.

About the parenthesis notes in the set list:

(Plant Cloak): Denotes a Grass-form Burmy or Wormadam. It's not part of the name.
(Sandy Cloak): Denotes a Sand-form Burmy or Wormadam. It's not part of the name.
(Trash Cloak): Denotes a Steel-form Burmy or Wormadam. It's not part of the name.
(West Sea): Denotes a western Shellos or Gastrodon. It's not part of the name.
(East Sea): Denotes an eastern Shellos or Gastrodon. It's not part of the name.

If you're having trouble figuring out who evolves from what, take a look at a fourth-generation evolution guide I cooked up and put into this recycled thread. It will tell you just how the Pokémon line up in the fourth generation, who evolves from what, and even the Pokémon's DS types to help you figure Weakness and Resistance!

Cardmaking for this set is finished. All cards are done.

Carrington, shouldn't we move past EX's and do LV.X Pokémon instead? Anyway I'll reserve Regigigas ex and the Infernape line.
