Exeggutor Deck idea for girlfriend

My girlfriend doesn't play terribly competitively and is looking for something fun to play with at leagues and whatnot. I thought maybe a deck based around Exeggutor HGSS would be a good idea. I'm trying to figure out what supporting Pokemon would help this deck. Does anyone have any suggestions? I searched the forum archives and found a thread that mentioned Togekiss in a deck like this. Is there anything else that might help?

Pokepedia is a great place to search for something like this :thumb:

None of the other ideas are very good. The Togekiss idea is likely the best. Make sure there is a Spiritomb active if you end up against an SP deck s you don't get Power Sprayed.

I think the next best idea would be Electivire FB lvX. Use Electivire FB's Dump and Draw to put the energy into the discard pile and draw cards, and then level up and use the Energy Recycle to attach the energy cards to Exeggutor. The power ends your turn though.

A Delcatty from LA has an attack that lets you attach a basic energy card from your discard to one of your benched pkmn.

I suppose you could Rain Dance the energy onto it and attach a psychic frmo your hand as the attachment for the turn. Or, there's a Kyogre from LA that lets you attach 2 water energy to one of your pkmn as an energyless attack.

Rain Dance only works for Water-type Pokemon, though, so it's really out of the question unless you start moving evergy around, and that's probably more trouble than it's worth. Kyogre works, but if you're going to go that route Weavile might be a better choice. Even as a stage 1, at least it serves the dual purpose of letting you grab special darks, then turn Exeggutor dark and do some extra damage on top of the standard for Big Eggsplosion.

Togekiss is probably going to be your best choice, though. The rest is probably either too slow, or too much trouble to be worth a minimal gain.

Exeggutor HGSS
Feraligatr Prime HGSS
Swampert GE

Already discussed in a way but I would also like to mention the addition of Swampert. The combination of Swampert and Feraligatr stops you from being power sprayed (both are 'often as you like'), and is not a bad attacker in it's own right if you need to use it [Swampert].

Alternatively, there's this route:

Leafeon X MD
Leafeon RR
Exeggutor MT
Dawn Stadium

Exeggutor MT is the same as HGSS pretty much except you flip for opponent's energies as well, and it does 30 per heads instead of 40. Can be pretty good if you're lacking in energies, especially against high energy attackers, and it benefits from Leafeon RR. You can heal 60 per turn if you attach 2 energies thanks to Energy forcing (while leafeon is active, otherwise you heal 20) which almost justifies loading it up with all that energy. This exeggutor also has the added bonus of being able to charge up a benched exeggutor with 2 energies if you can't attack them that turn for whatever reason.

The Togekiss GE engine you mentioned would also work with a few SSUs.

That's one difference in the way they work. The other difference is that String Bomb only counts energy from basic energy cards (it is under errata). Big Eggsplosion counts energy from special energy cards as well as basic ones. So, String Bomb doesn't like DCE and Upper Energy but Big Eggsplosion does.

So the HGSS one is better in that regard. Nice. thanks guys.

But using the MT one+Sceptile lets you get double energy from all your Grass energy, not just DCE and Upper (which can't be searched up). Yeah, its a S2 to get out, but that is easier to do then searching up and recycling DCE and Upper. And you get to take advantage of your opponents energies too, as mentioned before.

Take advantage of what opponent's energy? Most pokemon in the metagame operate on less than 3 energy. Even if they need 3 energy, atleast one of them is going to be a special energy card so String Bomb will ignore it, effectively making it two flips. You could probably rely on getting one coin flip out of the opponent's pokemon. At that point, you're better off juggling the special energy cards that provide 2 energy on their own.

Doubling all your grass energy really doesn't work. Otherwise, Torterrible would still be playable and Tangrowth would be better.

The deck would run better using Energy Forcing to get the energy onto Exeggutor. Leafeon and its LvX have better attacks than Sceptile.

Most decks in the Metagame aren't Exeggutor. If a Metagame viable deck was the goal, we would be tell him to play something besides Eggs. He's not looking for something for the Metagame. He's looking for something fun. Eggs+Scept is fun, simple, and works great in a league setting.

No, it is Exeggutor battling against metagame decks. If the metagame consists of pkmn that don't use more than 2 basic energy, may they be leagues or tournaments, String Bomb won't work. It's one thing to lose when the deck works because atleast you know the deck works and it was just the match ups were bad or you misplayed a card somewhere. There's fun in the strategy. It's not so fun when it doesn't work because then you've got a bad deck and nothing you can do about it until you change it. Sceptile doesn't work, even at league. Like I said, if it did, I'd be playing Torterrible right now, which also isn't so metagame at the moment.
