Pokémon TCG: Sword and Shield—Brilliant Stars

So, as i tune up my deck for Battle Roads, my fiancee and step-daughter have asked me to help them get decks for them as well.

What i told them basically is that they want to look for one or two cards to be their big combos, and to build the decks around that.

My question to the pokegym is where should they start?

My fiancee had a lot of fun with darkness pokemon at the UD pre-release and wants to try to use a modified version of the deck she made there, which heavily features Darkness pokemon. In that deck she has a regular houndoom and a prime one, a couple of honchkrows and some sneasles.

my stepdaughter likes eevees. she's got two espeon prime and at least one of most of the UD eeveelutions. my big concern for her is finding a really simple, but reasonably consistent combo that she'd be able to shoot for.

as always, thanks for the help and support!

combos aren't the only thing to look for.
Decks like machamp don't need a combo, they have reallly good cards and do their best to support that card.
look at what decks are being talked about alot on here or at your local league to give you a feel for what might be good or popular.

Well here is my 2 sense, is i think first you should establish whether they are competitive players or just players that just play at league. If they are competitive you should check out the most popular decks in the format although if they are just going to play at league playing combos might be easy and fun for them.

How old is your stepdaughter and how familiar are they with the game?
I assume that they are still relatively new, since you are building their decks for them.

How is your collection? Do you have Eeveeloutions and stuff from MD and RR? MD Espeon and Umbreon are pretty good for an Eevee deck and the Undevelop eevee cards from RR have some neat tricks they can do. The new UD Umbreon is good enough by itself to mess up alot of people's decks.

As far as the dark deck goes... I don't really like Houndoom prime. The regular houndoom with Fire Counterattack covers dark weakness well and the sneasels can do lots of damage. The honchkrows aren't my favorite either. Vengance could be a fun game finisher, but you need five pokemon to do 60. The other 'Krow with Blindside has a nice attack, but there is a Cacturne from PL that does the exact same attack for 2 Colorless(which means you can use it with DCE). Also all the dark pokes have pretty low hp which could be a problem.

Once again I suggest you dip into your collection to find some other pokemon to fill in the gaps.

@honchvire step-daughter is 8, and we're all pretty new.

@pokeball up till now we've been pretty casual at league, but we are excited to go to at least one, possibly more, battle roads and we don't want to get collectively stomped.

@jason i hadn't thought about running more eeveelutions that she had eevees for...i guess the theory is to try to keep an espeon prime out there, and then drop whichever other one you need at the time, then try to grab them with a super scoop up?

also, yeeouch, six bts between the two of them...? i better start saving now...and i think the uxie lv x's are right out :p i like the way those decks look, but there's no way i can pay that kind of bread for two cards...

it does give us a pair of skeletons to build from though, so thank you!

edit: Oh! Jason, in the list that you gave for my daughter, i may not be seeing it, but how do you recover eevee's that get ko'd?
