First turn rules over the years?

What have been the restrictions on the first turn of the game in these formats:

HP-MD (2008 Worlds)
MD-CL (2011 European nationals)
DP-RR (2009 Worlds)

I used to think it was something, but I read elsewhere I was wrong so could someone clarify this to me? I check pokemon.com, but could only find info for the current rules. Thanks!
