Pokémon TCG: Sword and Shield—Brilliant Stars

First Turn Rules since the game began:

If I remember right, the game originally started with no first turn restrictions (Just like now). But various things have changed such as:
No draw at the start of the turn for the first player
No Supporter for the first player
No Trainer/Supporter/Stadiums for the first player

But my question is, which of these rules were in force when? And were there any others? I vaguely remember the third being in play for DPPt (07/08 season until the mid season rotation in 2010/11).

Originally, if a player started with no Basics the opponent for to draw 2 extra cards but there was no limitations on First Turn abilities; important note that there was also nothing like Supporters or Stadiums in that era. You could literally deck yourself on the first turn by the time Rocket was released, thanks to Oak and Bill.

This should a little:

It was try one extra card for a mulligan not two.

From the DCI rule book, source cited above:
What If I Don't Have a Basic Pokémon Card in My Hand?

Then show your hand to your opponent, shuffle it back into your deck, and draw 7 new cards. Your opponent can then choose to draw up to 2 extra cards. If you still don't have any Basic Pokémon in your new hand, you repeat this process, but your opponent gets to draw up to 2 extra cards each time!

No, he's right. The original mulligan rule was draw two cards! They didn't change that until the also changed Confusion and Pokemon Powers split into Poke Powers and Poke Bodies.

Thanks for that interesting fact, but the real reasoning for this thread is I'm playing with World Championships deck from 04/05 and 07 atm, and want to play with the correct rules for the time. The Pojo link helped with 04, but 05 and 07 are still unclear.

Arcanite, check this for a quick list of the rules.

One big question I have is, what was the rule as to flipping and choosing who goes first? I seem to remember that at some point, the player who won the flip was able to choose if they wanted to go first or second. Maybe I'm getting it confused with 2/3 or we made that rule up but I thought that was a rule at some point.

IIRC, the coin flip still actually allows you to choose who goes first, but there's no advantage and plenty of disadvantage to going second, so nobody chooses to.

Not sure how relevant this is to the thread, but more than first turn rules have changed over the years. Some key rulings on cards have, as well as game mechanics: rules for retreating, Confusion, retreating while Confused, etc. have changed.
