1) How many different language releases are there of Base Set? DJGigaByte and I agreed that there were at least these ten, but I'm curious to know if there are more:

Japanese
English
Italian
Dutch
German
French
Spanish
Portuguese
Chinese
Korean

2) Of those languages, how many have first edition variations? I understand that Japan has an unofficial variation involving no rarity symbol, and we've beaten English to death, but what about those other eight?

Due to the lack of spoiler options on these forums, I've largely abandoned my thread for foreign cards. However, I think you know me on Pokebeach and I have a more thorough thread there. Although I cant link the thread here, its on my signature on Pokebeach, or you can PM me.

Anyway, those languages appear to be correct. The second Japanese version you mention also exists. There are no shadowless cards for any other language besides English, so only 1st edition and unlimited exist. As far as Chinese cards, I've been told there are more than one version, but I haven't seen any proof of anything other than Taiwan characters.

I cant say I know much more as far as errors go for the other languages, but I seem to understand that the errors from the English run have been fixed for the other languages.

The Portugese version of Wartortle has the evolution error:)

Yeah, but the errors are in Portuguese, and therefore not worth that much.

$30 is a pretty decent chunk of cash if you ask me. Plus, you have the chance of pulling the evolution starters in those packs as well. While the errors obviously don't go for near the value of their English counterparts, they are still worth a nice bit.

I recently have one of these Wartortle Portuguese Errors incoming. Shh about all this until I receive ;D
In all seriousness, I think $30 is a pretty accurate value. That is what I got mine at.

But how much does a Portuguese Base Set box go for? :p

Not sure how much a box goes for, but 6 packs went for $25 about a month ago. I would say a box would set you back about $200-$250 (1st edition would be more).

Haven't seen one on eBay in a long time, so it may be more/less than my price estimate.

I sold a Portuguese box last month for $170 and just sold out on the single packs at $4-$6 each. To be honest I did not even think about the Wartortle error in it :frown:

Guys, if a box goes for $170, it's really not worth it to open unless you collect Portuguese cards.

Let's say you pull 3 Wartortles. That's a slow sale of ~$90 total.
Then you pull a Charizard ($10?) and 6 other holos ($3 each).
That's a total of ~$120.

That isn't worth it.

The 1st Ed Portugese boxes were disproportionately rarer than all the other languages. The reason for this was a cargo ship went down with the original load of the Portugese boxes and the new more limited supply took 4 months to ship and were shipped with the complete unlimited edition. During that late release time English boxes were selling at a huge premium in Portugal cause the frenzy had already built up due to the advertising, movie, and cartoon.
That's why I kept several cases of them though the value never climbed much:(
