My name is Dakota G for those who don't know me at all. Going into this season I knew things had to change, and they did I was a lost player in my first year in masters and learned a lot of things, before this year I didn't know about the metagame, I had never top cutted, in masters or if I did it was by fluke. I have to do a huge shout out and thanks to my testing group Troy, Winston and Reed, you guys I just don't know what to say, I couldn't have done decently without any of you, oh and also thanks for putting up with me.:lol: You guys don't know how much it means to me, all I wanted was to top cut and I did consistently all season now I just need to learn to win in top cut once I get there.:tongue:
Anyways I had to get that out of the way and now onto the last part of my season as I won't be going to worlds, we had 7 rounds with a top 32 in masters, oh and I played Luxpluff because it was consistent and I knew how to play it.
Round 1: Amy K w/ luxchomp and claydol
I go second after she calls for a luxray/garchomp, on my turn I get a turn one pluff for an early KO but then she returns the KO with a garchomp flash bite combo on my jumpluff, I try to replenish the pluff with cosmic power and she sprays, I try to set up she sprays and that was the end of that game as I couldn't draw cards and get another pluff out. GG 0-1
Round 2: Guy with charizard
Ya the match went something like I kill an early charmander, next turn he rare candies attaches and expert belts his charizard for the KO and I'm 2koing his charizards while he's one shotting my pluffs, I bring it down to 1-1 in prizes but it didn't matter he rare candied again and belted fire wing for game. GG 0-2
At this point my dream of top cutting is in peril and I'am very sad, but I start to think positive saying there was still a chance if I won the rest of my matches.
Round 3: guy w/ feraligatr/ blastoise
He gets tododiles and squirtles but can't evolve them because he draws dead I kill off a few basics then he realizes he didn't put out his prizes, so he scoops. We end up playing a fun game and I 6-0 him. GGs 1-2
Round 4: vs Paula M w/ magmortar/ charizard
We setup and she goes first flipping over a charmander >_> but I didn't care that wasn't going to stop me from winning this game I go aggro pluff while she has problems evolving her pokes I just sweep her deck by aggro jumpluffing and she cant keep up with the KO's. 2-2
Round 5: vs???
I can't for the life of me remember this game at all will update later if I remember, all I remember is that I won. 3-2
Round 6: vs James B w/ luxchomp
I draw a ditto and a baltoy in my opening hand I chose to start with ditto because I thought it would be fun, turns out it helped me a lot seeing him start with an ambipom G and can't KO me because my ditto has 80 hp matching ambipoms hp. He goes first attaches and passes, I set up a pluff and leaf guard for 30, he draws thinks about his hand and then tail codes my leaf energy on my pluff to my claydol I need an energy to win with mass attack on his lone ambipom. I put a couple basics on my bench and cosmic for six and get the energy for game, he drew absolutely dead I felt kind a bad but what do I do? 4-2
Now I know I need to win my last game or I whiff cut, I couldn't let the comeback end there and focused on this game as much as I've ever done before.
Round 7: vs Kevin S w/ palkia lock
Easily my best game of the day/ best game overall. I go second after he starts with a toxi g promo and calls for a palkia G and a bronzong G I get a claydol and cosmic into a hoppip skiploom, jumpluff, bts and an uxie, I started with a chatot play my jumpluff down and setup for the energy to get a quick KO after I warp him into an uxie. On his turn he gets a palkia G x on the board and lost cyclones my chatot / uxie into the lost zone then uses pearl breath. On my turn I fill up my bench to get an OHKO but I whiff on the poke turn to get the ohko so I mass attack short 10 damage and it costs me. He pearl breaths and on my turn I fail to setup a pluff due to power spray on my cosmic power, I pass. He snipes a claydol with hydro shot and I top deck a azelf and communication it in with a baltoy in hand and pray he doesn't have a spray and he doesn't I cosmic into a roseannes, communication, a grass energy and a rare candy and a bebe I get my other pluff out and flash bite his PGX on the bench with 110 damage on it, then I mass attack a crobat g and go ahead a prize and never relinquish the lead from there on it gets down to 1-1 in prizes but I end up mass attacking an uxie x for game. The comeback complete I did it, it was very draining though every game I felt more pressure and wasn't sure even though I went 5-2 that I would make it in. I never make it easy for myself like who does that? lol It was an ugly 5-2 but it was a 5-2. I nervously await the top cut and I find out I made it in as the 30th seed which means I play against the number 3 seed, top 32 here I come!
Top 32: vs Karl A. w/ luxchomp
These were also very close games, G1 he goes first attaches to luxray and calls for a garchomp and a luxray on my turn, I get a claydol out and a pluff turn one, then I mass attack with a full bench for the t1 ko. He responds on his turn with a garchomp c x dragon rush / flash bite ko on my jumpluff, I then proceed to get another jumpluff out and trade prizes all game against garchomp. It's 1-1 in prizes and he has an active uxie x with no bench because he wanted to give me less damge to work with my pluff, he zen blades. On my turn I need to do an extra 20 damage with either poke turns or an expert belt, I have full bench and cosmic into the expert belt for game.
G2: Goes very similar to game 1 but he gets the advantage and never relinquishes the lead after bright looking my clay and killing my draw for awhile I still bring it to 1-1 but he garchomp snipes my claydol and at one point earlier in the game he tries to attach to another uxie x but accidentally he puts down a power spray and that was important because he didn't spray a single power of mine, and I was beginning to wonder if he ran power spray I know its weird but when he doesn't spray anything you never know. He wins G2.
G3. I get the god hand chatot, roseannes, hoppip, skiploom, bts, jumpluff and an energy, he chose to go first last game and since I lost he went first. He attached to luxray and passes with a garchomp and luxray benched. I roseanne for a hopip attach and an uxie drop bts and get the pluff out, while setting up for 6 I get another hoppip, baltoy and a ditto, with a full bench I mass attack his luxray for the KO. He proceeds to setup but whiffs on an energy drop and proves costly, he passes, I setup my other pluff and drop a judge giving him a dead hand I ko his garchomp and he puts up his luxray, then he bright looks my clay while benching another luxray attaches to the benched luxray and passes. I cosmic for a bat poke turn expert belt and a warp point after I mass attack for another prize a few turns later time is called and I'm ahead in prizes 2-5, I ask him if he could come back and he said no. I'm relieved to win my first top cut match ever in masters I lost in both t16 at provincials and regionals in the first round of top cut.
Top 16: vs Gordon C w/ plox
So I move onto top 16 and I learn I'm playing against Gordon C and plox. He was late and I have no idea why :lol:. Turns out no one knew where he went and troy jokes around about stalling him after we found him and told him to get his deck upstairs in his room, none the less it didn't matter. He beat me in 2 straight games as the plox lock plus dusknoir hurt me too much and I couldn't draw cards to keep the pluffs going props to Gordon for moving onto top 2 eventually.
And so I go out this season with a bang making it really hard for myself to get where I eventually got to and was just happy I won a top cut match before next season. Again none of this would've been possible if it weren't for my testing group thanks again guys.
I learn in the middle of the tourney that Robyn and the Mckboones were willing to let me crash at their place so I can play in the ugly cup the next day luckily, they're great people for putting up with me aha. But then I remember I wasn't planning on a sleepover and didn't have any clothes so I'm forced to wear the pokemon nationals staff shirt Jennifer got, and I never wear pokemon shirts :lol: The night before the ugly cup though I'm up until 3 am testing ugly cup decks with Robyn as Alaric and Jennifer went to bed, I decide on a donphan/ gliscor deck and a beedrill they were both good and consistent. I end up losing in the ugly cup not getting a chance to get in top cut
. I will add more later but I'm very tired and felt I had to get a report up because everyone is posting like no tomorrow haha.
Anyways nice seeing all of you again was very fun and good luck to all Canadians repping Canada at worlds, I know you will do us all proud!
