So theres only a few EX's they have yet to release and with X and Y coming out in October, I feel like theres only a year left of the current format. So far we still wait the following EX's that arent in Japan or America yet.

Suicune
Regirock
Regice
Arceus
Jirachi
Azelf
Mesprit
Uxie
Diagla
Palkia
Manaphy
Virizion
Genesect

How many sets does everyone think there is left in the BW format? My prediction is 3 American sets left (not including the next Team Plasma set thats coming ). Some how I think one or two of these guys will end up as promos and the rest will be in the sets. With whats remaining they will be able to get 3 sets left and then start up X Y and begin rotation following it.

Well, technically Genesect is announced for Japan, so you can cross it off. We can assume 5 more exs will be printed with Genesect, leaving only 7 Pokemon untouched. Now, its interesting to note that despite these untouched exs, we have seen 2 versions of Black and White Kyurem, and both formes of Tornadus printed, so its obvious they aren't trying to include all of the exs.

As for sets left, i'd imagine Japan only has 1 or 2 set(s) past Genesects before we will see X and Y, so it is possible that we see all of those exs printed, however its doubtfull. Additionally, with worldwide release of X and Y, the lag in sets for Japan vs America will certainly have to be handled some how, so we could see just 1 set past Genesects and then promo things to hold them over while we catch up.

Now, we have enough room for 12 if we follow trend, but i could see them throw in one more somewhere along the line so that everything gets ex-ified, but i just dont see them caring all that much. If they wanted it so bad, we would be getting one of the Regis over Tornadus-T, and then we'd have a plain 12 for 2 sets left.

I personally hope they abandon this who "only legendary Pokemon must be EX" thing very soon and start making other Pokemon EX as well.

They can make an EX is a promo too they dont all have to come through sets even though that is the most common way that they come. Moltres and Zapdos didnt come through sets in japan. The only legendary I feel may get left out is Manaphy which Im sure alot of people probably wouldnt care anyway.

Where is a site where all the japanese TCG info is released? I check on serebi and they didnt mention it (at least I didnt think they did).

I think we get Virizion, Suicune, Regirock, Regice, Genesect, and Jirachi...but Im just being hopeful lol

I'd predict Suicune, Regirock, Regice, Virizion to fix up the missing trios.
The last one apart from Genesect I'm hoping to be Jirachi, as they had Celebi and Mew.

And I'd say Manaphy but they seem to be neglecting 4th gen pretty badly.

Like Rambo said I think the sensible thing to do will be to just finish off any incomplete trios, we don't know how many more BW sets there's going to be for sure at all now.

I'm intrigued to see what happens after Meglo Canon. As it stands there's enough cards released and announced in Japan to carry overseas sets through to XY. However if they release more BW sets in Japan they'll be hard pressed to fit the sets in everywhere else. Personally I'm hoping Meglo Canon (and maybe 1 more?) will be the last BW set. This will leave quite a lot of room between the last BW set and the 1st XY one meaning a hard rotation will be more likely (by not miffing people off by banning brand new cards). Japan hard rotated into BW, maybe they will again but for the whole world this time if worldwide releases become the norm now.

A mixture of different series can cause problems if they're not designed with each other in mind. I'm really hoping for good things in XY and a hard rotation might get me back into Modified and buying boxes again with design more like mid-late ex or early DP series' and less like the "big Basic dominated, only ~10% of a set is playable" BW series.

Or it could just be that just like Plasma Storm they'll release more than 6 Exs each time a set comes out. thinking about it now, they would have to release 10 Exs per set after Plasma Storm just to get almost all of the Exs but I really doubt Pokemon would do that.

Predicting that Meglo Canon is the last set, I hope. The quicker we get out of these EXs the better.

I extremely doubt that Meglo Cannon is the last BW set but I could be wrong and Pokemon X and Y COULD come out and this format would continue into it for a little while. I also highly doubt that they're going to change Exs from basics to evolution card because WOTC tried that and these basic, legendary Exs are probably going to go on into at least 4 different formats maybe more because Pokemon has found that they easily make money from all the Exs not just 1 or 2 like with the Pokemon Emerald format.

New series usually introduce new mechanics in addition to old ones, but new generations almost always replace old ones with new ones. (Crystal Pokemon were discontinued in the ex series, Pokemon-ex and Pokemon Star were discontinued in Diamond/Pearl, Pokemon Lv.X were discontinued in HGSS, and Primes and LEGENDs were discontinued in Call of Legends.)

This is why the site needs the basic +/- rating system for posts; I wouldn't feel the need to bore so many of you when I disagree with something, but that something is so straight forward.

Why do some think non-Legendary Pokémon should be given "EX" status? As it has been executed so far, "EX" status has been used to give Legendary Pokémon the level of power they enjoy in the video games. You get a Basic Pokémon stronger than anything else... but it is worth two Prizes when KOed.

There are many things I dislike about how it was handled, but most of it is how the format itself was handled; the basic idea seems sound; make some Pokémon a little more powerful but worth an extra Prize when KOed to compensate.

If we start seeing non-Legendary Pokémon-EX, we'll just get a repeat of the past. Pokémon-ex (the predecessors of Pokémon-EX) were fun, but they never did seem collectively balanced correctly; as hit or miss as a lot of them are now, it was far, far worse back then; most of what we have that isn't worth using, is so because another Pokémon-EX does it better even in the same deck. In "the old days" with Pokémon-ex, there were just a lot of really lousy Pokémon-ex.

When you start applying it to Evolutions especially, things become messy; the "old days" had to make a lot of supporting cards (be they Pokémon, Trainers or Energy) inaccessible to Pokémon-EX (and most other special mechanics that co-existed at the time) in order to preserve balance. It "front-loaded" the game with complexity, and my general TCG experience is that isn't a good thing.

tl;dr: Pokémon-ex didn't work out quite right, and the areas where I recall those formats as being "better" weren't because Pokémon-ex could be things other than "Legendary" Pokémon and also came in all Stages... it was in spite of them due to a lot of work that upped game complexity in the wrong areas in order to balance the lot of it out. I have no reason to think with the foundation of cards we have now that it would be better, and in fact suspect it would be much worse!

I'm really confused why there isn't any Virizion-EX announced in Japan yet (but instead a second Tornadus-EX?), not just because it is the only regular Black/White legendary that's not an EX yet, but also because Keldeo is basically overpowered over there (with Hypnotoxic Laser, Super Energy Retrieval etc) and there needs to be a playable grass Pokémon.

Thats probably because they want Blastoise to remain strong. Fingers crossed this set will be about promoting grass pokemon.

The fact that they didnt include Virizion as an EX in Spiral Force/Thunder Knuckle breaks the streak of one musketeer per consecutive set. As in Terrakion, then Keldeo, and then Cobalion in that order.

I would laugh if, by small chance Genesect EX ends up being an overpowered :grass: type instead of :metal:. Though it will almost undoubtedly be :metal: it may still hold strong in the meta with the existance of the Klinklang duo. But this is all conjecture seeing as how we dont know what Genesect EX does yet. Plus in all likelihood we may still get Virizion EX in "MegaloCannon" so we can take Keldeo down a peg. And maybe they will finally complete the Dog trio with Suicune; this guy is vastly overdue. But then again we'd be giving Blastoise a new toy. There's always a hitch :nonono:
