Gashapon / Gachapon in America?

I'm a big fan/addict of Gashapon. They have been in the UK for several years now, normally as machines in shopping areas. More recently gaming shops have them in displays on the counter. I've seen them across Europe. I assumed that they existed in America, too, but keep being met with

They're capsule machines; they dispense random capsules that contain a toy or figure. If you've played Mario Party 5, you'll have used a virtual one already. One of the most frequent things to find in them is Pokemon, hence my addiction.

Here's an example insert I scanned from the latest series:

The wikipedia entry is short but accuratish

I want to know where they exist and where they don't!

Usually in the US, aside from areas heavily populated with Japanese people, our "gashapon" usually consists of stupid crappily made hick teeth, "bling", "homies", sticky hands, and lately spongebob.
However, some places do carry em. One of the movie theaters around here usually has Animal Crossing or Pokemon. Plus I work at an anime store and we can get in many kinds of gashapon.
You just gotta know where to look.

I got some AWSOME pokemon bobble head toys from one. It's in a hotel in Madison Winsconsion. My family stays in it when we visit the grandparents every year.

Supermarkets have really ghetto ones, but malls and card shops have some pretty nice ones. I've never used one before, though.

I'm talking about licenced stuff; Pokemon, Final Fantasy, Hello Kitty... Not 20p jewellry and bouncy balls.

@FireKatKid - I'm just wondering how much Pokemon you see, because the UK gets loads these days. Plus, I've noticed that the company is TYE - that's TomyYujinEurope - so does everything have to be rebranded for the states?

@Absoltrainer - I have the bobbleheads. Squirtle is the silliest. They were some time ago though~ 2 years maybe. So I'm thinking finding stuff is rare for you.

@Regis_Neo - That would be interesting if we had any idea where "down here" is.

@Muninn - But Pokemon? Proper licences? Random gumball-style machines aren't Gachapon.

EDIT: Ah, I found it. They should be in the US. Maybe they just haven't taken off majorly yet.

hmm 2 years ago was probably about right. 2 years ago was the last time I actually saw Pokemon stuff in them.

Yeah, I've seen some of these in movie theaters and in a local Kroger. They usually have stuff like the Simpsons or Disney movie characters I have a Togepi and Misty from a long time ago that I got out of these machines.

Looking at the insert that came out of the egg thing it says it is part 14 and it has Ash,Pikachu,Tracy,Misty,Jenny and Nurse Joy as others in the series.
