Pokémon TCG: Sword and Shield—Brilliant Stars

Gino Lombardi .... The Game

lol Ghetto Overlord- I've known Gino for a long time and have probably given him more losses than a lot of other players. Gino has indeed given me a good amount of losses as well. We're both good players-pretty even skillwise IMO-and I'm sure Gino would agree!

I would NEVER look up to Gino as a role model. There are FAR better players in the game than Gino to look up to. Sure he's got a pretty good rep with his winning, but when it comes to looking up to, Gino isn't the first to come to mind.

I mean his Nationals thread got locked because of his lack of vocabulary. If I were to have kids I wouldn't want them looking up to him either due to his "life style". I was at Worlds this year and over heard conversations with his friends and him. His "way of life" isn't something to idolize especially when half the things I was hearing were very racial and disrespectful...
i look up to Jason K
Lawman is correct. And yeah, he'll come back. Really, I don't see how this guy is a great role model, or how it's the worst day in Pokemon history. It's sad that we're losing a player, sure.............. But I mean, come on. That's all. -__-

Why does anybody look up to Pokemon players as role models?

Maybe within the game... but in normal life? Yeesh.
I never understood why people look up to sports stars in any other context than that sport. People who are good at sports are good at one skill, and that is why they are famous. You don't need to apply their lives outside of Pokemon.

I've known Gino for a long time and have probably given him more losses than a lot of other players.

since you known him for a long time then you must have played him a lot, and since you play someone alot doesnt it make since that over time the losses would build up into a sizeable amount? just a thought :thumb:

Obviously. What I'm saying is we've probably gone close to 50-50 in matches, with a slight edge maybe to me.

Just wanted to say a couple words on Gino's behalf..

I used to play with Gino a couple years back in the New England area. I quit a couple years ago, but still talk to Gino from time to time through AIM and other places. When I entered the game, the only friends I had, were the friends I brought to the events who started the same time as me..other than that, it seemed like the New England Pokemon scene in general was not too welcoming of me..basically everybody except Gino.

When I played, I witnessed Gino help the younger kids with their decks, befriend a lot of people, and basically he was a positive member in the Pokemon community as a whole. The fact that some people want to discredit his character because he uses some foul language with his friends(Which basically every teenager does), and had a couple threads locked(Which always happens when things get out of control..it wasn't necessarily his fault) is ridiculous. Gino has always been a good guy, and probably the only real friend I made through playing Pokemon.

So is he a role model? I wouldn't say so..I mean he's still a teenager like me and like many of us..we still have some growing up to do regardless of whether it's in this game or not..but saying he isn't a positive spirit and energy in this game is ridiculous.

I'd like to personally thank everyone for the support and comments you've given me over the past couple of weeks. I actually want to clear a couple of things up.

Number 1: People talk about me changing my last name. Anyone who doesn't know my last name used to be Rotondo and now my last name is Lombardi. The reason I changed my last name is because my father is not in my life. He's been in and out of jail all my life. I waited until I was 18 to change my last name because if I did it before then he would have to be in court with me which would complicate things. My mothers side of my family is "Lombardi" and my fathers is "Rotondo". I changed my last name to my mothers last name because I want nothing to do with my fathers side of the family or him. So whatever people say about me changing my last name, these are not only the reasons but these are the facts on why I did so.

Number 2: As for I can't win without cheating. I don't cheat, I'm allergic to cheating, I hate failure and I am in love with achievement.

Number 3: Do I really come across you as a gangster in pokemon? Really?

For anyone who thinks im going to play next season you should know a thing or two about Gino Lombardi. When he says he's going to do something. He's gonna do it, period.

Just wanna save this cause i gota feeling i will bereferencing it

Why this game judge staff never make any sence: Gino gets a game loss for using the sleeves they gave him at Worlds yet I played someone who was using the Empleon/Infernape/Torterra sleeves that were marked because of the smudges/border differences on the small Rampardos but when I called the judge on it he saw what I was talking about and yet the head judge says there fine even though they were not legal for any event the entire year.

My question: If Gino really is quitting, why does he go online on this site everyday?

Becasue he wants to read the buzz that surrounds his name. He cares. Whether he admits it or not.
This is a community and he feels a sense of belonging here.

WHICH ... is why I say :

Whatever man. Like I said before.... ANYONE that has put time into a game like you have simply CANNOT go cold turkey. It just wouldn't make sense. It'd be like LT hanging up his jersey right now.

True Competitors quit when they can no longer compete at a high level, not BEFORE they take the crown.

If you truly are "in love with achievement," then you quitting would be flat-out hypocritical.
In fact, you'd be issuing a VOLUNTARY REPO of your efforts; you'd be a quitter.
This is ... the OPPOSITE of achievement my friend.

Are you a quitter? or are you an "acheiver"?

where's your Worlds Trophy?

So, you got a game loss. Big deal man. Really. How many games have you lost to date?

I can feel you on the dissapointment thing, but the "I QUIT" kneejerk reaction is mad juvy dude.

Man up. Shuffle up. Step Up.

Get ya head in the game.

That's what's up.

(and come down to VA states or CCs like Frankie did... we'd LOVE to have you compete with us).

I can guarantee you'll be very satisfied with the judging here.

And, before anybody can say it, Barry Sanders is the exception that proves RA's hypothesis.

If you were running behind the Lions O line too...you'd look to retire early, before you lost your head. LOL

@RA: My understanding of Gino's post is that he was hanging up the card game before Worlds. Getting the GL didnt make this choice for him. I may not always see eye to eye with Gino's playing style circa Nats '08, but no one can take away the fact that he is a heckuva player and has earned many titles that he should be proud of.
