Gyarados: The Atrocious Pokémon

Dialga G Lvl X isn't very relevent because it is A.) difficult to get out ( both it and Gyarados have large retreat costs ) and also it gets shuffled back into your deck with Gengar Lvl X each turn making that fact even worse.

Billbilski makes a very good point about Infernape. I honestly feel Blaziken FB Lvl X is so far inferior to Infernape that it isn't even close, yet people still opt to run Blaziken. I can't think of a single matchup where Blaziken is the better card.

This is by far, the best Gyarados list I have ever seen. Very good job writing this article. Many players, including myself, will pretty much refer to this article whenever they are in need of building a Gyarados deck. Indeed, expert belt made Gyarados way better.

The only thing I'd consider is putting more matchups. There are many decks that can be played right now, so you may want to consider decks like Glistomb, Luxchomp, or Shuppet Donk because I want to see how this deck can do against them.
 
I think that if flygon is big in your are ( and it's big in almost every area!) playing 2 BTS and 2 rare candy would be wise.
 
this deck works great i played it at my local CC and got 3rd but i ran 3 switch and 3 warp energy with a 2-1 palkia X in it and it worked like a charm (only had top 2 sadly)

Assuming you have the lead(I always do with SP), trading ko's is perfect.....no need to expose luxray for every prize you take.....

...great article....I built up my own version of this deck using the blueprint herein and it is very good....sometimes you end up scrabbling to get Dos back up after he's been knocked out but that is all part of the fun. One thing for sure Azelf is a key card in this deck. Having one Magikarp prized kills this deck without being able to free him. I like playing it with Suicine in the deck.
 
I have played a lot of this deck lately and i have to say it. I run Garchomp SV and i dont see why it's not more popular with gyarados running around like it is. The last citys i went to I was OHKOing gyarados left and right.
 
I fail to understand why people always run Claydol here...
After turn 3 or so you almost always have too many cards... this is characteristic of Gyarados.
Why not run Dodrio? This is the only deck I have ever considered its use in.


A downside of Dodrio is also his weakness to Luxray, however, it is also not as susceptible to Blaziken FB or Flygon lock.

Claydol would prevent deck out, and you could cycle out Trainers with it against SF Gengar, so is that its selling point? What do you think of Dodrio?

I think Claydol is used as a tech for ultra mcterrible starts (ie non-sableye start plus dead hand). As long as you call for baltoy T1 or get Clatdol online asap through BTS you'll be able to salvage most garbage starts into playable ones by drawing into all your resources despite being a turn behind on supporters (cause of no sableye).

Pokemon Collector

I don't play any basic energy in my Gyarados deck, so I swapped out my Roseanne's for Pokemon Collector. T1 Sableye, Impersonate Pokemon Collector for 3 basics instead of just 2 with Roseanne's. Greatly speeds up G-dos's setup.
