Pokémon TCG: Sword and Shield—Brilliant Stars

hawaii worlds 2010 does it benefit the players or the ones who run it

Hawaii was the best worlds to date imo. It was beautiful and the resort was amazing. Yes it helped that I had a paid trip but you can plan accordingly and its not as much as you guys make it out to be.

yeah

hawaii '07 was good times.

i'll be back, for sure. invite or not.

only one main downside - RIPOFF FOOD PRICES...

$5 coke? $7.50 milkshake? $10 sandwich? :nonono:

This IS NOT targeted at any one specific person.

But for people who like to COMPLAIN about how/where tournaments are run ... and the prize offerings...

I'm just gonna say it...

People...

STOP ACTING LIKE POKEMON INTERNATIONAL OWES YOU SOMETHING!!!!

Dude, did it even cross your mind that these events are AT THE EXPENSE OF THE COMPANY ??? ?

Do YOU come out of your pocket to help with the renting of A HOTEL VENUE???
Do YOU come out of your pocket to give the STAFF and INVITEES room and board?
Are YOU providing BOXES of cards to winners?
ARE YOU providing "FREE" prizes for league play for three straight days?

No?

Then, THINK before you post a thread like "I don't like how POP runs our FREE freaking events" threads ... OK?

SCARY THOUGHT = AT ANY MOMENT, PUI could STOP the doggone events altogether.

This means - - > No States. No Regionals. No NATS. NO Worlds.

In fact, they could put a cease to all organized play and just sell the cotton-pickin' cards from now on.

So, we need to stop acting like we're ENTITLED.

POP owes you nothing. Be APPRECIATIVE with ANY location you're given. Either attend or not. It's that simple.

(had to go back and edit this to avoid giving MYSELF an infraction... lol)

Hawaii is NOT easy or cheap for me cos I am from the UK.

BUT San Diego and Orlando are not exactly easy or cheap either.

When people moan about Worlds location, what they really seem to be saying is 'it's not fair that it isn't reallly easy for ME to get to'. Never mind anyone else.

Hawaii seems like a great place to visit for a holiday and I'm going to do my best to make sure I get there one way or another.

This about entitles what I have to say.

I know I'm going to play harder this year than ever before to try and get the paid spot (something that will not be easy), but if I don't... Oh well. I'll be fine with it; I've yet to go to World's, but I can wait until the Worlds after next if I must.

Europeans and Americans appear to be the biggest offenders. But yes. Personally, I think threads regarding locations that aren't instigated at the request of the parent company should be locked from the get-go, you always get 25% or whatever of stupid posts suggesting it be in the poster's home town, another 40% is Europeans yelling at Americans who are complaining that it's far away, and the Americans retaliating, and the rest of it is useless drivel like this telling people how pointless the thread is.

Wooohoooo. I just got back from Hawaii a month ago! And I cannot wait to go back nxt year!! *applies for second job*

I think when PUI (a) puts an event like this in a place that is so expensive and (b) offers limited trips, then clearly the event is about something different than ensuring that the best players in the world get together to see who is the best.

If you treat it like a post-season celebration for those who can afford it, you will be much happier.

The only reason I'm not looking forward to it being in Hawaii is the price.

If not for that, why WOULDN'T I want to have fun in the sun on a tropical island paradise while playing pokemon for a nice trophy and 7500$?

I have to side with the people that claim that if you;re not willing put out, then you don't deserve the reward, because even though it sounds harsh, the truth is that if you really want it, you're going to start your planning now and work your backside off.

Hopefully, my mate and I can score invites, but if that isn't in the cards, there's always next year. I'm personally looking forward to nationals '10.

I too live in the UK and you americans have no idea how much it costs to get flights to orlando etc nevermind hawaii as it sure as hell is probaly a fraction of the price it costs us to get there so quit whining and get on with it:)

hawaii

we did work really hard this year to get a invite to worlds and yes we did get a ranking invite. we planned on going and had it all worked out. my son in the juniors division won regionals 3 cities 2nd in states and 4th in another. the day we had to leave my father in law ended up in the hospital. i called pokemon they said my son had to be there in order to get his stuff from worlds. its not the fact of having the money to go it just seems unfair for it to keep being so costly especailly for the ones over seas. i know they run a free event but they did years ago when there where more paid invites then. we just feel there should be more paid invites to trips like this. if i'm not mistaken hawaii had the lowest turnout for a worlds. with the economy the way it is how do they expect americans not to mention people over seas to get there.

Then why do they have a LCQ at the site of worlds?

Nats isn't the last chance the "LAST CHANCE" Qualifier is the last chance.
I never said Nats was the last chance. I said that Nats is the end goal for all players. Nats is the big party.

The LCQ serves to fill in the spots for invites who couldn't make it. It also, as its name suggests, gives one last chance to players who didn't get an invite through other means.

Tim, answer me this if you can...

1. How many slots were available through the LCQ? (I understood that 24 players got in through the LCQ - 4 as normal plus 20 more for players who did not make it.)

2. In #1, I said that 20 slots were available because of players (mainly from Europe, as I understand it) were unable to attend since they had the invites but not travel money. Do you know if this is true?

dc

I don't like it since I will only get to go if I get the paid invite. I guess if you guys loved it last time it should be great.

I do not know how many players did not show up.

If they cut the invites in half again, then I have something to complain about.

If they keep the invites at 128, then I'm not worried at all.
