Hello Pokegym! I'm just returning to pokemon after a couple month break. Before I left though, I had a feeling about Haxorus. I see that plasma box and darkrai are still running the format (who woulda thunk it?). That being said I have to ask if anyone uses or has seen the use of Haxorus. I feel that this card may be overlooked. I've just looked through a few pages of deck lists and card commentaries to find that nobody has even mentioned this big guy. Seeing how people are afraid of Kyurem (forgive my spelling), it would only make sense that this guy could really shut it down. OK OK it's a stage 2, but with 4 candies and computer search you're able to perform this fairly easily! Not to mention we still have blend energies in the format. That being said this opens us up to a lot of options. A simple hard hitting fighting type basic (sawk maybe?) could see to the destruction of darkrai and Absol while Haxorus hacks his way through those annoying plasma cards.

What are your thoughts on the use of Haxorus in todays Meta?
 
Well I feel the only way to use haxorus is as an anti-plasma pokemon or a pokemon which would be dependent on a unreliable ether. Don't get me wrong I feel it is a very good card but does not have the support from other cards to rise in this format of high HP EXs.

PS this is assuming you are talking about Haxorus from plasma blast the others are useless
 
Yes sorry, the Plasma Blast Haxorus is the one in question. We still have Gabite to search for dragons and Altaria (+20 damage), also the blends used for Haxorus could benefit a Garchomp. Although 2 stage 2's aren't desirable- I don't think it isn't plausible.

Although Haxorus is very good at laying to waste pesty Plasma pokemon, he still has an amazing underrated first attack (which sadly requires more set-up). OK, so 40x the number of metal energies. 1 for 40 isn't great, but 3 for 120 isn't bad. when you have 3 for 120 + laser (and possibly altaria if one were to go that route) you are looking at potential for stomping down on 180hp+ EX monsters.

Haxorus can also be supported with other cards such as tools, an early game Mr. Mime to protect him from early bench damage, perhaps ditto as a surprise attack. I'll start working out some rough drafts tonight and get back to the PokeGym Community with my results after a few games of play tests.

If we are using gabite then just use garchomp since it is a better attacker. 20 damage is not a lot to add on to an attack. Also I feel the main thing missing is a way to add energy at a fast rate like if one of the haxorus gets KOed where is the back-up one? You would have to make a deck with a energy guy like victini EX.
 
I run a haxorus variant with sawk and suicune and it works very nicely. You can start out with sawk early game hitting any plasma that come your way and set up a haxorus or two on your bench. Suicune is a nice counter for EX's and with the new rulings pokemon catcher becomes pokemon reversal and there is no chance of donk on the first turn, this makes the deck less susceptible. I am going to put a few modifications in the deck to make it more up to date. If you do decide to go down this route I would suggest putting 2 pokemon catchers in, just because if there is a hazordus threat up on the opponent's bench it is nice to have something to give you the possibility to neutralize it.
 
Thanks for the reply guys! I was testing out Haxorus with Retaliate Terrakion, blend energies, Silver bangle and Silver Mirror. The deck worked decently. My first mach up was against a Darkrai/Hydreigon deck that teched in 1 Genosect.

At first the game was going in my favor. I had 3 Metal energies on my Haxorus beating down darkrai and smashing sableye. Terrakion was hanging out on the bench with 1 fighting energy by turn 4. Where things started to get a little messy. I had taken 3 prizes to my opponent's 0. My opponent used Dark Trance + Max Potion. Sent up Hydreigon and 1hko'd my Hax. At this point I sent up Terrakion smacking back for 90, but it was useless, he dropped a Genesect and used dark trance (using blends/prism energies).

The deck was OK. Ofc it was just a rough draft with little thought, but I could see some major flaws. Maybe I'll have to let this idea go for while as I have been proven wrong. It would be nice if Shift Gear were still in the format, but oh well.

Also a note on Altaria - yeah it's a waste. Easy prizes and 20 damage is nothing. Gabite in the deck doesn't make it any faster than normal and creates clutter on the bench. Well back to the drawing board. :)
 
you could try running one, or two landorus EX in the deck as a counter for darkrai and other non plasma cards that would be hard for haxorus to knock out.

with the new X and Y set coming out you could put muscle band in the deck as well as red card for disruption.
