Headhunting?

I'm trying to be careful not to jump to any conclusions, I was confused earlier... But from what i see now thanks to more input I think in this case it wasn't bribery or anything and seems like a reasonable incentive. It's your pokemon cards, so it should be okay to give them to Cindy but not Charlie, right?

I have not had much experience with the highly competitive atmosphere of Worlds, Nats, or really huge Regionals, however.

I see the last point that was made, in that it could just be additional prize considerations for the Top 4. It makes sense to me.

But instead of bribery, this rule would seem to be more applicable...

Tournament Rules said:
3. Wagering

Wagering or gambling on the results of a game, portion of a game, match, or number of matches by anyone, including players, tournament staff, and spectators, is strictly prohibited. Anyone attempting to wager on a POP tournament should be removed from the tournament site, and the incident should be reported to POP.

That has nothing to do with this. A wager is "I bet X player will beat Y player," or "I bet X player will win."

What was happening was, "anyone with less than 200 points that makes final four will get a prize." There was no wager on any game or even on the final standings.

By that logic, Jimmy's top cut central would not be allowed to pay players to advertise with their playmats during tournaments.

complaining about having to play against quality players for invite is the stupidestthing I've ever heard.

No Xs and Ys, homeofmew: There were prizes offered to anyone who could make the final four of the Sunday tournament who had less than 200 points.

Yeah... there was a rumor at nats that people with < 200 points couldn't enter so i didn't. I am not really happy people were being told this but whatever. I also didn't see the point to me entering it after I found out I could get in.

Iin the end, I am actually happy I didn't play in it, I got a lot of boosters in the VGC Side events anyway.

But if people are mad that people with less then 200 points entered, they have... issues.

Having personally met Cyrus, I will personally vouch for his integrity and intelligence, as will most that know him.

Even the idea of headhunting in Pokemon is ridiculous, im trying to win anyway, am I not?

But, to clarify for those that insist that its wrong or violates some sort of sotg issue, ill explain.

There is nothing wrong with, nor is it against the rules, to ask your opponent to concede...so long as you aren't offering compensation. It is perfectly legal to say "hey man, I'm really close to an invite, will you concede to me so I can lock it up?" The point Cyrus was making was that, people that have no desire to go to worlds were entering just so they could scoop when it was convenient, like when they got paired against a friend or something....or, even those that were just playing for fun, not really thinking they would win, then would scoop when a player asked them to.
