Heatran Lv.X

As some people aroung here know already, I think Infernape MD makes an excellent partner for Heatran LV. X, it even has more direct damage potential (from what I see, Mag uses burn and uses Flame Buster to constantly do lots of damage, along with some small bits on the side...).

Part of what makes that Infernape good is that it can actually make proper use of 2 Heatran (however, such use is overkill...), among other things which I don't want to list...

Magmortar/Heatran just doesn't work that well because of neither of them having free retreat. You either have to have 2 switch/warp point or wait till your active gets KO'd and then lv.x up and switch/warp point to the bench. Infernape works really well because it has free retreat and all you need is 1 switch/warp point. Also, it is much more energy efficient than Magmortar is. Magmortar does 80 for 4 energy cards, while Infernape can do 80 for 2 energy cards. Sure, you don't have bench sniping, but you have a much more consistent/energy efficient deck.

Infernape/Heatran is my favorite deck right now.

Haha I put it in my Victreebel deck.

I had Victreebel, Weezing, Heatran X, and Toxicroak

It was mean.

Double Poison and all the burning damage from Heatran.

Burning Poison is a fun deck!

houndoom (LA)
gliscor (LA) ????

those seem like sweet combos
houdoom with bucks is amazing-- ohko's any basic for the most part

Heres the thing though, you combo magmorter with heatran and leafeon x. even if yo dont get th eheatran x out, magmorter and leafeon is a ridiculous team and if u open with any of the 3 and claydol into a warp point your fine. I built one and I like the deck a lot its very fast. I splashed in 4 leaf energies so leafeon x can attack too

The problem with Infernape/Heatran is that ape is a stage 2 with the same hp as Mortar, no nifty healing ability, no combos with cards that can help the Kingdra matchup (which is pretty much an autoloss), and it doesn't have the super burning capabilities that so easily deals with duskgar decks.

Actually the stage 2 thing isn't that much of an issue when comparing the two considering that Magmortar lv. X is essentially one as well. Magmortar has a hideous 3 retreat though which as Prime pointed out makes it hard to actually get Heatran lv. X into play and then back on the bench because unless you open with it, you're going to have to go through 2 Switch/Warp Point just for that. Infernape also can deal a lot more damage for fewer energy whereas it takes Magmortar 5 to do 100 (which becomes 130 with the lv. X's Burn). The monkey is dishing 120 for 3 with 1 discard, although of course it also has the 40 for 1, 80 for 2, 4 for 160, etc. options. Mag/Heatran is also generally going to rely on the Magmortar lv. X to get OHKOs while Infernape can swarm, which is bad for the Mag player when it loses the lv. X because it generally takes a bit of effort to get it back out. As far as "combo cards" that help against Kingdra go, there is Cherrim (I'm talking like a tech 1-1 line), which turns a 3 energy Mega Bravo into 130 every time, plus it can stall against Kingdra for a bit if it has to with its resistance and healing abilities. Dusknoir DP is another option to cut down their swarm. Finally, to address your last point, Monferno from MD can actually auto-Burn with its first attack while also dealing a respectable 30 for :fire: which of course could be used advantageously in the Dusknoir lv. X or Gengar match-up.

1-1 Cherrim in Infernape/Heatran lv.X is pretty ingenious. It helps two fold, with Infernape's attack and against Kingdra. Kingdra takes 4 turns to KO Cherrim if Cherrim keeps using it's first attack. Pretty sweet idea.

Apart from the combos that has already been mentioned, Heatran LV X can work with Magnezone decks too but only if the Magnezone deck is base around the board control strategy...
