I'll begin by saying that I am relatively new to the current TCG, seeing as up till a few months ago I hadn't picked up a Pokemon Deck in 9 years, roughly 12 years old. I've got a good grip on what's to be used if you want to compete on a Worlds level, but I just can't bring myself to just use one of the same 5 decks everyone else is using. I started with the Royal Guard deck because Nidoking has always been my favorite Pokemon, and although I know it's slow and can't go toe to toe with the meta, I still want to make a modified deck with him while he's still in rotation. After going through old TM/RR Monarchy lists, I've come up with this, but I'm sure there's at least some room for improvement. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

3-1-3 Nidoking
4-2-4 Nidoqueen
2 Cleffa
19

8 Fighting
4 Psychic
4 DCE
16

4 Rare Candy
3 Communication
3 Catcher
4 PETM
3 Black Belt
3 Collector
2 Twins
2 Switch
1 PONT
25

Strategy: Basically, swarm Queens, letting them do as much work as possible while setting up a King (maybe 2). As slow as the deck is it's almost a guarantee that I lose a couple prizes early so Queen can hit with 80 with Prize Count. Let a Queen do as much as it can, then bench it before it gets KO'd, thus reserving it to boost King's HP when his time comes.

-1 Candy
-4 PETM
-2 Cleffa
-2 Switch

+2-2 Dodrio line ( -** Retreat )
+2 Seeker ( Yes, your nidoking is a tank but it will eventually have too much damage on it )
+1 FSL
+2 Greatball

Would be my recommendation, I was recently looking at building a similar deck. I just found it so horribly slow to set up. Was fun how ever.

Was actually strongly considering the Dodrio line and Seekers, glad there's a second opinion on them. The Great Balls in place of PETM kind've worries me though since Goths and Plume run rampant in my local league. It is very slow, which is unfortunate, but I'm very determined to make it semi-competitive before the Kings and Queens get rotated next summer.

Cool theres someone else thinking of this deck ( i love nidoking too) suggestions: max out twins (4) and switch GOOD LUCK

Haven't had much luck with the Seekers - just takes too much time to get King back out after I pick him up. Been able to bench 3 Queens in most matches, including Goth locks, Plume locks, and a Samurott deck. The Dodrio lines have made retreating alot better, but will probably get at least 2 Switch back in the list, as well as 2more Twins. The worst this deck has been put up against was Reshiphlosion, but I really don't think there's anyway to make Monarchy quick enough to keep up with it in this format.

This deck looks pretty raw :) I actually planned out a deck very similar to this, and here is what I have:

PokeMonarchy

Nidoking 3/2/3
Nidoqueen 3/2/3
Dodrio 1/1
Pichu x1
Shaymin x2
Total: 21

PONT x3
Professor Juniper x1
PETM x2
Pokemon Collector x2
Pokemon Communication x4
Great Ball x1
Twins x3
Rare Candy x4
Pokemon Catcher x1
Junk Arm x1
Total: 22

Rescue Energy x2
DCE x2
Psychic Energy x6
Fighting Energy x7
Total: 17

My strategy was also to swarm Queen on the bench while beefing up King. Your ideal starter would be Pichu, allowing you to fill your bench with Nidoran and Doduo to set up Dodrio and the Nido lines. Rescue is there to help preserve either King or Queen from being picked off by Yanmega, Kingdra, etc. However, if you can get at least 2 Queens on your bench with an active and fully charged King, you can tank and thrash anything out there, OHKOing Zekrom, T-Tar and Magnezone. If you play your cards right, and luck is in your favor, I don't see why this deck can't compete. :) these are just suggestions, though. Feel free to say no to any of it :)

Never thought about Pichu, that may be an awesome addition if I can replace the right cards. Rescue would be a good addition too now that I think about. Only 7 fighting energy worries me slightly, but I'm always worrying about energy so it's probably just me lol, and the 1-1 Dodrio line leaves that chance of one getting prized, but it wouldn't really make or break the deck if that were to happen I don't guess, we'll see. Thanks for the ideas!

Not a problem :)

If you are worried about not getting enough Fighting Energy, you can adjust it to a 4/9 Psychic/Fighting split since the only one that would use them are Queens. I only put a 1/1 Dodrio because it wouldn't be a necessary card to the deck's strategy, he would just be a tech to help out. This is what I've seen to be consistent, and although I have not tested it, I see this as a deck that can be good with particular circumstance.

Most definitely gonna try the 1-1 line, that will free up a space or two for Pichu, and with Pichu I could drop 2 Collectors. Could for sure use the wiggle room that this would give my list because before this it was difficult to decide what to drop/keep. Can probably put in Bellsprout now to counter all the Goth locks in my league, as well as some of the Plume locks.
