So after i went to a prerelease yesterday i fornd myself with a hippowdon lv.x and was wondering if there is anything that goes good with him?I have 4-3-1 of hippowdon and 2 regirock,i need one more pokemon line.Is there anything that goes good with hippowdon lv.x?

Probably traded for it, don't ya think?

Anyway, I found in testing that Electivire FB LV. X does well to charge it quickly, works as a decent starter, and even works well with Hippowdon X's power, since you don't shuffle discarded Energy back in. Electivire also cover's Hippowdon's weakness fairly well, as long as you withstand the initial Kingdra rush.

That's actually some pretty sound theory my friend. I mean there's not a lot to do with hippodon competitively in the first place, but this is pretty good. Props.

I used Hippowdon Lv.X with Kabutops MD for a while. It works to combat SP decks by stopping the Energy Gains, Power Sprays, Poketurns, etc. while being able to pick up all of the energy if needed to level the playing field if the opponent had a faster start than you did, which isn't uncommon against SP decks.

I'm looking for something to do with hippowdon because i think i want him to be my cities deck if i could find something to go with him.
I want to make hippowdon competitive,i'm just not sure what to do with it yet.The electivire lv.x idea don't sound half bad.

Back to back posts merged. The following information has been added:

I was talking to someone at a prerelease yesterday and he thought with expert belt out maybe playing lucario from dp,put the expert belt on lucario 2 for 60 hit a benched poke for 20.He thought that hiting bench wouldn't be a bad idea because the lv.x of hippowdon attack hits bench.Could lucario be a good fit?

I don't understand how you can make hippodown any more competitive then with the things we mentioned. Flygon's pretty high up, and that electivire idea is pretty decent.

A folder goes good with him.

I hate to say it but I think it's unplayable. Or at least I can't see it winning any tournements. It's attack is alot to ask for. And it's Power is a nice extra but seeing as you asked I'll deliver.

Regirock & Electavire have both been mentioned & are both good. This is really bizarre but Machamp? You play Regirock to speed it up. And the Lv.X takes away the Unown G's. Or even Gengar?

Spiritomb helps, blocking Power Spray from negating Sand Reset when you want to use it. However, this format emphasizes cheap attacks, and that Power doesn't do much against a lot of decks including Beedrill, Kingdra, and Gyarados.

Regirock and Stark Mountain will help you with energy acceleration, but the attacks you are accelerating aren't especially good. You also have a horrible weakness to contend with.

I ran Flygon/Hippowdon for a short while. I used Looker's Investigation to scout for Power Spray, because the power is once per game.

Yeah i have 2 lucian's and never thought about the super scoop ups.The lucian's help late game to move energy to a healthy hippowdon and then switch to out the weak one.I also play expert belt because i put it on the lv.x and when he gets weak i use sand reset so they don't get the extra prize.
What is a good number of energy to run for hippowdon,i have 14 in there now and i don't think i need more.

Hmmm I guess 12-14 energy is fine. I myself would play 12 but then again I havn't really played Hippowdon much. I tell you what try 12 and if it IS to little just change it back to 13-14.

Another idea i had was using expert belt for extra hp and damage, then when hippowdon gets low on life try to super scoop him back to my hand or using sand reset so they don't get the extra prize.
Also,do you think the deck should use 3 or 4 switch?I'm leaning towards 3 because i'm running out of deck space, but what do you think?
