Holon's Castform used as an energy card

Holon's Castform has that awesome ability to attach as an energy card to make up two of any type of energy? Is that mixable, can you make it two different energies, or the two energies have to be the same?

Holon's Castform said:
You may attach this as an Energy card from your hand to 1 of your Pokémon that already has an Energy card attached to it. When you attach this card, return an Energy card attached to that Pokémon to your hand. While attached, this card is a Special Energy card and provides every type of Energy but 2 Energy at a time. Has no effect other than providing Energy.)

the two energy count as all energy at the same time, however it counts as 2 energy. So say you have Haxorus PLB #69/101 with Holon's Castform attached as a special energy card. You can attack with either of Haxorus' attacks - "Dragonaxe" or "Strike of the Champion". If you attack with Dragonaxe, then you will deal 80 base damage [as the two energy would classify as 2 metal, and all other energy types, for the purproses of calculating damage]. If you attack with "Strike of the Champion" you already meet the basic criteria of the attack, you would then check and see if the defending pokémon is a team plasma pokémon or not. [if the defending is, then it's KO'd].

does that clarify it for you?

Holon's Castform, like Rainbow Energy and several other cards before it, provides units of Energy that count as multiple Types at the same time, all the time. Just like Blend Energy GRPD always provides one unit of Energy that is treated as all four Types listed in the name, Holon's Castform (once attached to a Pokémon as an Energy card) will provide two units of Energy that count as all Energy Types. You can't have them not count as a Type, even if you wanted.

I am wondering if you are familiar with the oldest Electrode, from the original Base Set. It could KO itself to turn into a single Energy card (you discarded Voltorb and then attached the Electrode to another Pokémon) but it was worded so that you had to pick a single Energy Type for which the card to provided two units of Energy. The restriction there is because the Pokémon Power itself had such a restriction built in.

Thanks to both of you. That clarifies it.

I went back and looked at it, >_> It was there. I never understood that card.... thanks.

But Raikou EX's Volt Bolt requires you to discard all electric energy attached to it, but if Holon's Castform is attached, do I have to discard Holon's castform?

yes, you would have to discard it - the reason is that it counts as all types of energy, including "electric".

It is nice that my tendency to overload people with information didn't backfire in this instance. ^^ You weren't alone in not easily understanding Electrode (Base Set): it wasn't until I read up on it in the Rules Compendium that I understood it. Pity that Energy Removal and Super Energy Removal made it such a terrible play.

Also, just because I find it better to have an answer to a ruling question backed by multiple players, Tim17 is completely correct; Energy cards that provide multiple Energy Types never stop providing that Type unless overridden by another effect. So a card like Rainbow Energy or Holon's Castform will always be discarded by an effect that states to discard all of a specific Type of Energy.

As you are using some older cards, be aware that there are some that specify how many Energy cards to discard (as opposed to just how much Energy); such attacks won't care how much Energy is provided: a requirement to discard two Energy cards requires two physical cards be discarded, while a requirement to discard two Energy can be met by a single Holon's Castform. There are also some older effects that can change the Type of Energy a card provides and thus can override the effect of something like Holon's Castform.
