How about byes at Nats

Well I hope that wasn't directed at me, as it was just an idea I had. If it's random nonsense, it'd be nice if you could tell me why. Ketts I'll probably ask you about it on AIM one of these days. I am probably completely off the ball but I'd at least like to know why.

And ninetales, I'm saying that the higher rated players would get preference into the T32 at Nationals over lower rated players, so yes, the trips would pass down, but wouldn't you rather secure invite by winning Nationals than having to rely on your rating?

Eh no offense meant! I just don't feel like going into a long shpeel about it, lol.

Bye's at Nats

Lately on the gym i've read an article about gaining byes at the NAtional championships and Tego said that if youv'e won a City or state championship that you could get a free bye at nationals ( this being true in Norway) but i was wondering if this would be true for the U.S nationals. I have won 1 city championship and 2 state championships so does this mean in the U.S nationals i could get 3 free bye's? Also during the Battle road in Milford I was talking to a friend and he was explaining that a bye is very good because 1) you don't have to play and have the chance of loosing 2) you get full points on your K-value so i would recieve a plus 32 for that bye and 3) because it counts as a free win on your record. Can you please tell me if this is true or not and some infomation about byes at nationals.

Thanks :pokeball:

IT isn't actualyl happening this year, people are just talking about it, suggesting it, but no yuo do not get byes.

Dom it has happened this year. Not in the UK but definately elsewhere in Europe.

BYES leave your rating unchanged. Mr Bye is the worst possible player in the world so even when you beat Mr Bye (he's my only auto-win) you gain 0.0000 points!

But what if you LOSE to Mr Bye?

Oh yes, folks. It could happen.
Beware.

You know the idea tht Mikey (Magnechu) suggested sounds kind of cool. If you do good all season, then have say a 5-2 record at nats just cuz of 2 bad starts or something then your chances at a worlds invite arn't totaly ruined yet. I like it =D

4-2 at UK nats blew both the ratings invite and the nationals invite. Though there were enough players for a T16 cut only a T8 was run and a lot of good 4-2s didn't make it in . late season losses hurt you lots and because nationals is a late season tournament losses there have a double impact. I'm not surprised that high rated players consider sitting nationals out. With allocated byes there are fewer swiss rounds that you have to play in and hence reduced opportunity for the donk-monster to strike you down. Of course because you play fewer rounds if the Donk does strike you will go down even harder because you don't gain ratings points for playing byes.

Just to clarify: In Norway, you'll only get one bye no matter how many City Championships you win. Same with State Championships. However, there's a special treat for those who are City _and_ State Champion: byes for the first two rounds.
