Pokémon TCG: Sword and Shield—Brilliant Stars

How did you start?

Found FireRed for GBA when I was in 5th grade and got hooked on Pokemon with my younger sister. With the DS, got into Mystery Dungeon, Ranger, Diamond/Pearl, and basically every generation since.

As for the TCG, I ventured into a local card shop one day and bought a few packs of D/P, just because it kind of looked interesting. That's when I started collecting the cards, mainly because I enjoyed the artwork. Around the time of Stormfront I found the official Pokemon site and read about the leagues and found one close to where I live, so I decided it might be fun just to check out. I had managed to convince my sister to try it out too, and we arrived with my incredibly awesome Electivire/Empoleon/Magmortar deck (which included a grand total of five energy) and her Majestic Dawn theme deck. Luckily, we were able to receive deck building help from the league organizer, and built some pretty fun newbie decks.

She ended up quitting after the first couple of weeks, due to losing a lot and getting frustrated, but I held on and had fun. Even though my Empoleon/Floatzel deck lost most of the time, it always felt amazing when it did win. (My 2-4 record at my first Cities was awesome, even though I had a bye and a win against a theme deck )

Since then I've improved and learned a lot about the game, and have even had some success in the competitive arena. I've made a lot of great friends; both at league and at the tournaments I have attended. Overall, the TCG's been a lot of fun to play

About 9 years ago my older brother had Pokemon: Yellow Version (Pikachu Edition) and I reallllly loved it. Then I decided to get Pokemon Blue because I thought that the games were really cool. My brother also had Pokemon: Silver Version which my dad said (quote) "This game is lame", but I caught him playing it from time to time! I eventually lost the game (never really like it). Then for Christmas my parents bought Pokemon: Emerald Version for my brother and Sapphire for me. I LOVED those games. After school I wouldn't do my homework because I was playing all night (I still passed :p). Then after that I started collecting cards because my brother, my uncle and my cousin were playing and I wanted to learn. I learned how to play via "Pokemon Trading Card Video Game" which was very out-date by that time, but I didn't know. I might want to mention that I traded a Dragon Frontier (through that my fave Pokemon became Salamence) Rayquaza for a Master Ball to my cousin, because Master Balls can catch ANYTHING. I learned later how stupid I was. I eventually got all of the games. 3 years ago I started playing the TCG competitively and I won one Battle Roads: Autumn in my state. Since then I have't won anything, but I still try :D! That brings me to here. One of the best Pokemon websites in the world.

Surprisingly started the tcg before the video game back when it first came out in the UK, and then started playing competitively instead of collecting in 2001. The video games I started playing when Gold and Silver came out.

Hello everyone!!! :D My name is Tyson and I have been playing this game for a very long time. I starting collecting the cards when they first came out. I loved watching pokemon on TV and playing the games as well. So when I found out about cards I really wanted to collect them and play with them. I put decks together and played with them. ( They were terrible!!!) I was young back then so I am sure that all the counts were off, I knew to have 60 cards and all the basic rules, but my deck building and play skills were very bad. But I met people in my local pokemon league and various other kids threw school and other things. I continued to play threw all the sets to come. I didn't start to get better at the game till meganium and steelix ex came out and that is the first time I won my first battle road. After that I kept playing more and more becoming more competitive. I wasn't able to travel as much as I wanted so I didn't get to go to all the big tournaments. I got to go to my very first nationals in 2008, the gallade, gardevoir season. I got to the top 16 before I got beat by Gino Lombardi. He played great and was a very nice person to me. So my first nationals ever was an amazing experience. The best part was.... top 16 got to go to worlds!!!!!! :D I am still playing today and I love the cards I love how powerful they have gotten. They have come a long way from those little 30HP pokemon we used to have. You meet a lot of really cool people from pokemon. I met the guy that made this thread, PokePharos! He is an awesome friend and loves to talk about pokemon cards and decks. He has many ideas and is fun to play against. I feel that the pokemon card game opens up so many things for you, meeting new awesome people, opportunities to travel, and the chance to win great prizes. I love the pokemon card game and I don't want to give it up anytime soon. :D

Well, I got involved initially in 1999, when Pokemon was hitting hard. I was buying everything I could find at Toys R Us. Unfortunately, my step kids - 4 and 7 at the time never wanted to read the cards so we just amassed them for a while. We did have 2 complete Topps sets, as one must have what the other has.

Fast forward to a couple years later. The kids got some new packs from their grandparents and decided that they wanted to learn how to play. By this time, the topps cards had been boxed up and the TCG cards were in binders. We divided them up so that each of our kids had one of each card and then divided what was left to my niece and nephew. Of course, at that point we knew nothing about deck building...

Finally in 2004, we started going to leagues - I learned the game so I could teach them how to play. I got hooked in the process. My first card was a Lt. Surge Eevee (1st ED) that my step son gave me. That is the reasoning for my username here and everywhere else...

Started Judging in 2005, started my own league in 2006...

The rest is history....
