How Do I raise my "PING"?

Generally speaking, isn't a lower ping rate more desirable than a higher rate?

Ping is latency, which is not necessarily your speed. Though a faster connection will, generally, yeild a lower ping rate.

Depending on your you setup, there is actually very little that you can do. Dial-up is a no no, and so is satilite. DSL, cable, and FIOS would be the give you the least ping all else being equal.

If you are able to choose the sever that you can connect to, do it. Sometimes the path that your signal is sent through will provide a fair amount of latency, by changing the sever your route will differ and the environmental causes of latency may be avoided.

Some cheap/older routers (wireless or not) will cause some latency, so will bad cabling.

Dude you want it as low as possible not higher... My ping when playing WoW is generally 29-47 Which is pretty good ^^ ummm one way to lower it is to close all other apps when doing what ever it is you require a lower ping for.

Yeah, that's what was confusing me. Higher ping means you play horribly because of all of the lag. It's not very fun to play with a high ping.

ok so when playing lets say Star Wars BattleFront 2, my ip is usually between 50-100.
should i connect to other games with low ping, when i connect to high pings it says connection to server lost

I thought IP was your computer address or something.

Connect to other games with low pings because you will not get as much lag and your gameplay won't be disrupted as much. If you join high ping games, it will be hard to play because the lag gets so bad that sometimes you get locked up and have to exit.

IP is the Computer address, and is just the number used to connect to others(or to be hacked into)

Ping is how fast your computer is processing the game with bytes transferring(Correct me if i am wrong)

but 50 and under=1-2 seconds lag
51-200=3-5
210-500=unplayable its so bad.

in some games the ping can be as high as 400 without more than 2 seconds or so of lag.

but 50 and below for most games is a good idea. and you can acieve that with a cable connection and closing out unnecassary programs(Web browsers, messengers, etc)

EDIT
"Packet Inter-Networking Groper." PING Can be used as a command in MS-DOS. Early computer programmers used this acronym because of it's similarities to a SONAR ping. A computer ping will send a packet of data from one computer to another to measure the time it takes for information to be sent and received. Pinging a computer can also help diagnose problems within networked computer systems.

I have on my halo trial around 49 ping...thats what people tell me but when they get on to play...they say it is majorly laggy...Can anyone explain this?

lol, i am the best sniper on my team. We did a 500 v 500 against this other team and i got 145 head shot kills ; )
