How long with current cards

^ personally, it's something I kind of frown upon too... but everyone does it. lol
First day I'm there, I'm like.. okay... and I just go with the flow now.

Some people don't even have the decency to print them out in colour...
It makes me annoyed. My proxies almost look like counterfeit cards... :D

You have some high quality proxies then. Mine are little slips of paper with the name of the card written on it and throw into the sleevee.

Ryan is the man. However, he made one minor mistake. The new promos are not POP promos. They are reprints of current cards. This means they will rotate when the set they were printed in rotates. In the case of the Uxie, Legends Awakened. If you are looking for Claydol, it's coming in the next League season, which is a month or so off. So bear in mind when spending money on certain cards, can you last without them for another 4-6 weeks? A list is available on the go-pokemon site of all of the upcoming league promos. http://www.go-pokemon.com/op/leagues/promocards.html There we go.

Also, if you do not have a league near you, but are interested in having one: Start one! It really is not difficult to start a league, and the whole thing is only a few hours of work a week. I don't know how plausible this is, but it's definitely something to look into!

That is exactly what I have decided to do. Rather than try to travel hours every month, we have found that there are about 15 kids here locally who want to do pokemon. So, we went to the library, asked if we could use it, and there we are. I'm trying to get all the stuff we need (especially POP Id cards) but we're playing right now and figuring it out as we go. Thanks for all the help guys!!

nah, I just printed proxies enough to finally figure out the exact dimension of a real card.
Just put "full colour" settings, print them on a standard printer that everyone would have at home.
Cut it out nicely with a ruler and exacto knife, and it's all good.

Oh, don't forget to cut those 4 corners nice and round with a pair of scissor afterwards.
I think I spend too much time on my proxies... haha

It just peeves me to look through my deck after playing a Bebe's Search and I see either some black and white print outs, or like a piece of paper with some word written on it or something.

My 2 cents worth

1. The kids are what it is all about - they have a great time, are not worried about meta, love to play their favorite pokes, and if you pay enough attention you could possibly learn something from an unmetatainted mind however small that morsel of knowledge may be, all knowledge is valuable.

2. It is very constructive for the young ones to learn strategy. It is not often that they are challenged to think outside the box. Pokemon porovides that portal for those who look to enter.

3. You do not need to win every tounament you enter to learn. It is the same as you would expect from any other hobby. You do not invest in the best cards until you are certain you know how to use them. In other words, when you realize that having a specific card would have aided your strategy then you should look into getting that card.

4. I have played against children that are just beyond the capability of reading the information on the cards much less forming a strategy. It is an opportunity to teach them to think of cause and effect, in my opinion a staple of life. It is fun to ask them why they play certain cards and what they are trying to accomplish with the play. They may be brighter than you think.

5. It is very gracious of the hobby folks that lend space to the leagues. I would recommend that the use of proxies be limited and the support of those that support us maximized.

I have faced the same question regarding the purchase of certain cards. If you intend to make a collection you will want to get the cards anyway. If you are only looking to play, use what you can get without great cost and learn with those cards. By next year you will have many of the cards that will become part of the meta.

Personaly I think it will be platnium on with all of the new sets coming out
There will definatly be a good enough set up to build some sort of deck

They have never rotated out more than 5 sets before.
Even if they rotate out all the DP sets, that would be 7 whole sets!
To rotate out any of the Platinum sets, they'd have to rotate out 8 or more sets.
Can you really see them doing that?

And why would they rotate out a new block's "Base Set"?
It just wouldn't make any sense at all.

Until last year, they have never done a "no rotation" either. Just a little guess work here, but I truly believe the format next year will be HGSS on. Here are the reasons for my thoughts:

1. A rotation of 8 or more sets would make up for no rotation last year.

2. Every time the game mechanics have significantly changed, everything with the old mechanics has been phased out.

3. It would make things easier, and thereby smoother, for new players who aren't aware of the "old rules" and judges when running tournaments.

4. Even though there will be rulings as to how the new mechanics interact with the old mechanics in place, it will still be (as it always is) like trying to fit a square block into a round hole.

HGSS on just makes the most sense. Sorry it took so long to reply to you; I wasn't watching this thread too well apparently. Taking that into consideration do you think it is at least a possibility?

Nope. They're not phasing out ALL the sets before HG/SS. Just a few. I think only GE and the sets before it are being phased. Trust me, when Double Colourless energies are re-released, the Flygon decks will be bigger than ever before.

Anything right now is just speculation. I based mine off eleven years (though I did take about a 3 year break when Expedition was released from attending tournaments) of experience of participating in tournaments and/or watching the ebbs and flows of the tournament structure and how cards were rotated out. This is what has happened historically, but you never know what they will decide to do until after Worlds.

we could even end up with two rotations: September and February! It is all just speculation. If you are new to the game then buy the latest set and your investment will last longer that taking a punt on cards from a set that is 2 years old.

HGSS on makes the least sense. That'd leave us with a grand total of THREE (Count 'em, THREE) playable sets. Murder of their own business anyone?

Now PT-On, that is logical. 7 sets rotated out? Why not, after that 5-set rotation a while ago it does balance out somehow. It'll leave us with 7 sets to start out with, which does make sense.

As long as they dont rotate GE while keeping SF in, I'm happy though.
