Hi,

I'm wondering how many points/tournaments played you need to be eligible to play in a national championship. I've been asking people and getting unsure answers, and looked myself and was unable to find it on the website, sorry if this has already been discussed.

Thanks a lot!

You need 10 Play! Points. See here: http://www.pokemon.com/us/news/op_nats_2012_announce-2011-11-07/

As for what Play! Points are, for anyone who doesn't know, here's a quote from the Tournament FAQ: http://www.pokemon.com/us/organized-play/tournaments/

What Are Play! Points?

Play! Points are points you can earn by simply participating in qualifying Play! Pokémon events. These events include Leagues, Tournaments, and Championship Series events. When the program begins in early 2012, you’ll be able to review your Play! Point totals and see where you rank against other Play! Pokémon Members worldwide.

What Are Play! Points Used For?

Play! Points will reward you for what you love—playing Pokémon! As an active Play! Pokémon member, we want to reward you for your dedication and ongoing participation.

Play! Points replace the current Player Rewards program, where players can earn cool Pokémon stuff just for playing. During the season, the most active players will now be able to earn more Pokémon goodies than before.

Pokémon Organized Play will award the title of Player of the Year to the players from each age division with the most Play! Points.

What I Can Earn Specifically With Play! Points?

As we get closer to our official launch in early 2012, we’ll create a Play! Points FAQ that should answer all of your questions about Play! Points, and what you can earn.

What About Events I Play In Prior to the Launch of Play! Points?

When Play! Points goes live in early 2012, every event you’ve played in this season will be counted towards your Play! Point total.

As for how many you get for each individual event:

Autumn BRs: 1 Play! Point for each BR - http://www.pokemon.com/us/organized-play/championship-series/tcg-battle-road-autumn/

Cities: 2 Play! Points for each City - http://www.pokemon.com/us/organized-play/championship-series/tcg-city-championships/

Fall Regionals: 5 Play! Points - http://www.pokemon.com/us/organized-play/championship-series/tcg-autumn-regional-championships/

That's all we know so far, as States/Spring Regionals/Spring BRs/Nats/Worlds Play! Point values are not currently announced. You can probably assume Spring Regionals will be 5 like Fall Regionals. I believe you also receive 1 Play! Point for each league season you participate in, per league you participate in. I can't find this on the website, but I'm almost positive this is the case. Someone please correct me if I am wrong.

It may be that you get Play! Points for Prerelease, but I do not know and can't find any information saying as such of Pokemon's website, so consider that pure speculation.

As far as I am aware (which is limited )

10 Play! points for USA Nationals (all age divisions)

10 Play! points UK Nationals (Masters and Seniors)

---------------

Does anyone know for Canadian Nats or any other country for that matter?

I don't believe it's been officially announced for Canadian Nationals, BUT I'd say it's safest to just assume you need 10 Play! Points at this point.
