How will the new EX card mechanic work?

If Reshiram has 130hp, I imagine Reshiram EX will have 160+hp

That is completely reasonable for a basic /sarcasm

I remember when 70 hp was nice for a basic

Reshiram EX 160 HP

Ability Heat Up
As often as you like during your turn, before you attack, you may discard a card from your hand. If you do, search your discard pile for a basic energy card and attach it to Reshiram EX

[RR] Overheat 100
Discard two R energy attached to Reshiram EX

[RRRCC] Omega Flame 200

Wx2 - CCC

Something like that?

^Dude you forgot about the power creep going on. Make the overheat do 200 damage and remove the discard effect and Omega Flame do 800 and take 3 prizes it it knocks the opponent out. Do that and it's realistic.

I personally don't see the point of this thread; speculate all you want but we still won't know the mechanic until it is released.

That gets me fired up! :D
Not using the card but taking it down with my Gyara :p

Here's a more interesting question: PCL and TPCi said at one point that they were done with exclusive ultra-rares. Will this mean the new EX Pokemon will be normal rares, and some of them will get full art versions? Will this be a block transition and the design philosophy will change again? Will they just flat out flip their players the bird in the middle of a recession, despite the fact that there was a pretty clear response from players that exclusive ultras are not what they want?

Up around where I am I can't think of a set that sold as well as BW at launch, to the general public, and that brought in so many new players. DP didn't, Plat didn't, HGSS didn't. It was the fact that people knew they didn't have to buy 10-15 packs to get a single good card - that the good stuff came in normal foil as well as in full art ultra rare, which is in my opinion the way to do it, especially in the current global economy. Look at Japan, and their attempts at making the game more accessible.

I'm curious what they'll do with this, and how much it will hurt the playerbase if they make them ultras.

I don't care if they are ultra-rare or not, although I do like being able to buy Reshirams for 3-4 dollars each. I just want a new mechanic. Legends are unplayable, Primes are just regular cards and full art cards are as well. I just think the game needs to be shaken up a little; ex's and lv.x's added a lot of diversity to the game (especially ex's).

Oh I'm fine with a new mechanic, I just hope they don't do something that's going to tank the game again. Canada's playerbase is still building back up after we literally had almost no players from Neo through EX block, with DP being a slow and painful revival. Competitive is back in a decline but there are more overall players now - that's honestly a better change.

Haxorus EX spuh/Galvantula EX spuh confirmed for BDIF in 2013

Anyway, I think that the two mechanics will be at least somewhat related. I really don't think they would release a completely different mechanic with a slightly different name, too confusing. I think it will either be the exact same (unlikely, but possible), or it will have the "ex" rule of drawing two prizes, plus something else. Or it will just be an arbitrary title, like with "Pokemon prime". In any case, I hope it's the second one, I want to see this game shaken up.

I think it'd be Zebstrika instead of Galvantula.

All I know is, my username is now badass (gods willing that the mechanic is actually good!) once this set hits. The caps was originally an oversight, but now, it makes sense!

1 per deck, automatically becomes your active Pokemon when you retreat or get knocked out, and goes into the Lost Zone when it leaves play. Each EX Pokemon requires a certain condition to be played (for example, Mewtwo EX requires 6 total of Pokeball, Great Ball, Ultra Ball and Master Ball in the discard pile and Kyurem requires that there be a Zekrom and Reshiram in play who both have at least 6 damage counters). Each EX Pokemon has an attack/ability related to their play condition (Mewtwo can use attacks from any Pokemon in the deck and Kyurem changes types and weaknesses whenever you attach an energy to him, Zekrom, or Reshiram).

That, would make them INCREDIBLY fun.

There's no reason EX has to be ultra rares.

It's like when I used to play MTG in ~2000?

You had five colors, red/black/blue/green/white. Basically any card that was a combo of two or more colors was a rare, and was super powerful.

Nowadays, there are many dual-colored cards, many of them commons or uncommons, at every range of usefulness.

Of course, we're probably only going to see fully evolved EX, so I would say that it would be best if we recieved a few uncommon basic ex, stage 1 ex; and then rares for basic ex stage 1 ex and rare ex, and then ultra rare ex for very few specific cards.

I'm really just hoping that they continue to do the full art cards. Those look awesome, and I'll miss them if they decide to stop doing them after Red Collection.

Ex should have the same rarity of their predecessors. It's also EXACTLY the same as the older Ex's, which isn't too surprising.
