Pokémon TCG: Sword and Shield—Brilliant Stars

If the next format is E-On...

OK, what's LC? Have I mentioned that I hate abreviations sometimes? :)

What do you guys think of E-on? Would it have a suitable base of Pokemon and Trainers? I certainly think so. My store right now only has R&S and I've seen more than once where a deck made of only R&S cards could REALLY use something like a Fisherman.

Ah, ok. I only got one pack of that and I was thinking it was called Legendary Set. :) I'd prefer E-On without LC because then it would make the more experienced players have to think of new strategies without relying on the same old stuff.

Thing is, LC doesn't really add that many cards people depend on anyway. Some were old favorites, but they all got overshadowed by cards that are legal in Neo-on Modified.

more data

Not the official word, but interesting, read what our TO for prerelease told us: San Diego Pre-Release Constructed Format

Basically, Expedition onwards with promos dating from its release (Sep 2002); if you read the thread, you'll see the detail on which promos fall in that category.

I have to agree with those who are stating that the play environment in the near future would be far less interesting if the (Exped., Aquap., Sky) E-cards were rolled out of modified.

TTar666 has completely covered the supply question. Obviously, its the general case, but it is a very prevalent case that you can still get a lot of Expedition & Aquapolis & even Skyridge in retail outlets, small shops and certainly online.

It would be decidedly against the 'compatibility' advertised for the R/S EX series to say that it was only in unlimited you could play the old cards. The energy removal in unlimited makes 95% of Evos unplayable. It would be UNFRIENDLY of Nintendo to make us put down cards from the e-Series at this time; I don't expect it. Those who do are, in effect, stamping a company that wants as many players as possible to stay in the game with an attitude more conducive to a company that has other games they want people take up.

LC? Well, I played some cards from it with success. Oracle/Bill is off the charts for composing successful Rogue decks (search two to top of deck, then draw two off top of deck -- bingo!). Trader & Breeder. Some Pokemon (Zapdos, Venusaur) were elements of winning decks. If you don't know these cards and want to understand them, check them out at Pokeschool, Pokemon Zeo or Pojo (try google). So, LC will be missed, but it doesn't cut the legs out from the environment. Anyway, I think we'll see some of those cards again someday, maybe sooner than later.

So, e-Card On, or EON, is 'good times' together with EX and the latter promos. I consider the last modified to be the richest play environment since I entered the game (fossil), EON, even without Dragon, looks like fun. Dragon won't be the last release where e-card sets are legal in modified either, I don't think.

The only format that matters is the one that is used for Nitendo's TOURNAMENTS. You know: Worlds!

In casual play, and that includes most leagues, you can play whatever format you like.

I fully expect that Worlds will be RSon.

Come on people, you don't NEED an official announcement as to what format to play to ENJOY playing. Let go of mummy's skirt tails and choose a format that is best for your local players.

Of course we need an official format. There's no point in playing your own format if there isn't international competive play in that format, IMO.

Tego THAT IS MY POINT.. we need an official format for international competative play. BUT you don't NEED an official format for casual or league play. Its nice to have, but not required.

From memory WotC would often anounce that a format would change just prior to worlds... in an attempt to freshen the environment and reward the original deck builders rather than sheep who only ever play net-decks..

I gotta say that as OP in the UK is now solely run by the professors and big tourneys are South East Challenge country that sorry TEGO we can play what we like in our own tourneys and will continue to do so.

For International OP we just gotta wait...... wait .................. wait............... etc............................................................

I am still standing by my logic that I mentioned when these boards just opened. Nintendo, beginning with EX: R/S has been calling the game the "Pokemon-e TCG". Now, by common sense, -e would include the E-Series. If they really wanted it ONLY EX-on, they would have called it "Pokemon-ex"!

Once again though, I'm only using logic and not inside knowledge.

But, EX-on is ridiculously slow and boring, and would probably fizzle out after a very short time, assuming future sets aren't really awesome.

E-on has NOT been an official format, and although a number of people play it now, it IS the best strategic format and a good move for Nintendo. Only pushing the newest set(s) would annoy a number of people.

Finally, I'll be quite annoyed if they do NOT make it Expedition-on. I got one box each of Expedition through Skyridge. Each box is around $80. If they wouldn't make it E-on, all that money was wasted, and I KNOW I'm not the only one who bought e-cards.

There's my thoughts.
~P.S.- It's reeeally annoying writing articles about specific cards for this long (2 months) without knowing what format it'll turn out to be. I generally took on the best assumption that it'll be E-on, but my articles sometimes turn into "if this" and "if that". Gets quite annoying.

Patience will only tell, but we do know that all Pokemon cards including wizards made cards are intellicual...intel... (I can't spell I swear) smart property of Nintendo. Therefore the premeire tournament format (a.k.a. Modified) is extremely likely to include previously released sets. Of course which ones. By now Neo Genesis through Neo Destiny and Southern Islands is most likely going to be out. I would not doubt it if Legendary Collection is also to go into the darkness (since it was the last collection to be released before the modified switched to Neo on from Rocket on). So that leaves the extensive sets of Expedition, Aquapolis, Skyridge, EX: Ruby and Sapphire, EX: Sandstorm. I think that bulbasnore's perspective of the promos are interesting and possible (classic promos 49-52, all 9 best, new promos 001+). Sigh it is just to early to say, all I do know is that whatever is to come it is going to be fun.

So for the players try playtesting decks based on these ideas plus your own. It is the only way to get prepared.

This makes sense to me. It's the Pokémon-e TCG, there will be Pokémon-e Professors (that's what they call them) and so on. That should be a sign that they would want us to play with all Pokémon-e sets, Expedition, Aquapolis, Skyridge, R/S and Sandstorm.

The message at the moment is to continue to play what the players find fun and that no decision has yet been made on Eon or RSon.

I did get a no comment response from Dave Schwimmer on likelyhood of the format being RSon when finally announced but I gotta say again that come November 3 sets for RSon and some promo's from Nintendo under our belts and I could see RSon as the future format.

That said in the UK from October 1st we are going for Eon for major tourneys plus best promos.

Decide yourselves what format you want to play and then do it... after all the game is ours to play...

Then again, they may have selected Pokemon-e to try and make the card game sound like its "new" by cashing in on the whole "e" craze, just like naming everything Pokemon EX (Insert set name) is supposed to cash in the the long dead "extreme" fad. Its also been mentioned, by novemeber, we could have 3 sets and a good deal of promos. Finally, there are always balance issues: we have always had problems with mixing card pools that belonged to separate "games" more or less in Japan...

It's seems like it would make more sense to move the Modified format to Expedition on since we haven't had most of the cards from that particular grouping of sets for not even 1 year! It would seem strange to rotate out sets like Skyridge that have only been out for what less than 6 months?

NoPoke, you agree with me! People that support RS-On are hard to find these days. =x

Scrye is a pretty good magazine. Lots of neat stuff about CCG's in GENERAL. Then again, you can't really take my word for it, because I'm prejudiced. (I write for them ;/)
