Pokémon TCG: Sword and Shield—Brilliant Stars

Infernape 4 > Blaziken FB?

Hmmmm . . . tested this a bit now.

Infernape is CLEARLY the better partner for Luxray. The obvious play with Luxray (Bright Look/Retreat/KO) is much more easily achieved with Infernape, simply cos it hits harder (100 vs 80).

This DOES NOT make Blaziken a bad card, or even an inferior one. It just does best in a different deck. Blaziken-Blaziken is completely viable with Blaziken FB LV X as a tech. Clutch for 80 + Burn is a great attack, and its [C][C] cost addresses some of the speed issues which older Blaziken/Heatran decks had (not to mention their bad starts). Blaziken/Magmortar is even faster and has real tier 1 potential imo.

So . . . Infernape remains the best heavy hitter for SP decks, while Blaziken is amazing in decks that can abuse the Burn status condition.

You'll see both cards top cutting BRs soon enough.

Blaziken PT does not specify that he must be active for his effect to work. It says once during your turn before you attack, you may choose one of the defending pokemon and that pokemon is now burned. so yes, Blaziken PT works from the bench.
Well said baby Mario, well said. I know i'm reitterating Amphy, but there's really no other way to put it. a good way to summate the whole deal leaving both sides satisfied.

Don't Infernape and Blaziken do completely different things in a completely different playstyle? Is all this completely necessary?

I can say that I've tested against a few Blaziken variants, and I can say from experience that Blazeray has far too many bad match ups for my taste.

@prodigal fanboy: Why do you always have to be smarter than everyone else? :p

They do when they are used separately. However, this thread was instigated predominantly by the Blaziken/Luxray deck that took second in some youngin group of some big Japanese tourney. That's why this thread is necessary, to debate the merits of Blazeray v. Luxrape.

I agree. Flychamp is an abysmal matchup (and a great deck), not to mention Gyarados.

I don't have to be. I don't aim to be.

It was 2nd at Japanese Nationals in Seniors. Takuto I. was the opposing player who won.

It just happens as an accident?

I don't get what you're attempting to insinuate or imply with this angle of conversation, and rather than go through the effort to fish for motive through probative responses I'll simply ask through this rather wordy declaration.

Just joking at how you always seem to have a well thought out and articulated argument for whatever you are talking about. It's like you have a file cabinet somewhere full of this stuff.

Now I can say 'I have a prodigal fanboy quote! lolol'

It's the hip and happening thing to do!

No, I just like to spell out my logic because I objectively know I am not the best player and that my personal style and preferences will bias everything from lists to testing results to analysis of these results. Thus, I have to lucidly lay out and construct my argument on matters that are not something that has been concretely demonstrated/proven, if nothing else that others might find flaws I overlooked.

Edit: I will concede that in a Beedrill-heavy meta, I'd feel much better running Blaziken, with a 3-1 line, 1 Aaron's, 1 VS Seeker, 1 NM, 2-3 Prem, 3-4 SP Radar.

My brother is having phenomenal success with his Blazeray. Apparently, the meta at his BR rewards the lower energy cost for scrambling more so than the power (e.g., he's played no non-toolbox SP).
