Jake's Mississippi Valley Regionals Report [Top 4]

Prologue:

Having not played all season, I was pretty clueless as to what deck I'd use for this event. I asked for Colin's Porygon-Z list, of which he was fairly certain he'd play (he didn't). I spent a few hours on Tuesday gathering the items I was missing to construct the Porygon deck. Of those items was a Uxie Lv. X that I was forced to drive over to obtain even though its owner was at the event, anyway (I proceeded to do it only due to the lawlz factor, and because I'm certain he wasn't expecting me to actually go there, but I assumed his moral factor was sound). Bela & Tim arrive at my house on Friday and we exchange a few cards to finish our decks; we watch various funny videos depicting Spongebob in hilarious situations and other videos that feature my favorite black comedian. Tim has to leave to attend an affair with his father, so Bela & I leave to go to Zach's house, where we will engage in various entertaining activities, such as playtesting and beating David up with pillows. During our moderately long testing sessions, I realize that Porygon-Z isn't a very good deck. David, Bela & I decide to construct a Dialga G deck. It's fairly standard but we included as many techs as we could; we were able to handle practically any situation and any matchup. These techs certainly didn't guarantee a win, but they strengthened our chances. We weren't able to gain much sleep prior to the event because Nick kept turning the TV on and off because he couldn't figure out he was in DVD mode and figured eventually the remote would reset itself if he kept turning the TV on and off (poor assumption on his part). [I'll expand on this later..not feeling it lawlz]

At the event:

The event starts a bit late because people are too ignorant to figure out to not go by the scratched off numbers. Contrary to popular belief, this didn't slow the event down. It's completely irrelevant when lunch is taken; the total amount of time spent at the event would remain the same. I go to Sbarro with Bela, Nick & David. After that, the event starts shortly.

Round 1 v. Dane W. [Machamp/Absol] 1-0

My start wasn't amazing but I was able to use Weavile G to get a few Pokemon out and I had a Uxie X + Boundary + Skuntank to respond to his first Machamp. After that, I just deafen the whole game. Time is called and I'm up on prizes. I'm fairly certain I would have won anyway, since I could use Uxie to kill any Machamp he would get out. Deafen + Poison ftw.

Round 2 v. A mom of a player [Torterra/Shaymin] 2-0

I get a pretty bad start, but with Lake Boundary and Houndoom G I'm able to kill pretty much everything. Dialga G turning off the annoying bodies is also beneficial.

Round 3 v. ??? [Kingdra] 3-0

A correctly built Kingdra is a tough match. I don't remember what I did exactly play by play but I do know I used Power Spray at the right times. It came down to her discarding all of her energy and me warp pointing her Kingdra out. I didn't realize this at first, but we both came to the same conclusion that she'd lose on time anyway since I was up in prizes, and if she was bluffing I'd be able to kill another Pokemon to place it back in my favor. She wasn't bluffing and decided to concede.

Round 4 v. Shawn [Abomasnow/Giratina/Bronzong] 3-1

The two reasons I was unable to win this match were one misplay and Blissey being my fourth prize to draw. After this match I had this match up down and was confident I would be able to beat it even under such conditions.

Round 5 v. Alex [Donkness/Kingdra/Crobat G] 3-2

I had no energies after turn three. He had like five Claydols with Super Scoops and BTS in play. I lost.

Round 6 v. Ryan [Porygon-Z/Absol/Manectric] 4-2

I used deafen.

Round 7 v. Jack [Mothim/Shaymin] 5-2

His poke-bodies were worthless. The extra 20 HP almost meant he wasn't able to OHKO me and with the help of metals, he'd require three hits. I used Bronzong + PokeTurns to ensure my Dialga G was never murdered by his *****ly thrones.

Round 8 v. Fletcher [Gengar/Crobat G] 6-2

I kept messing up and then I came back from my nap (with eyes opened) and proceeded to play much better. Go read his report for more details.

Intermission:

I go to Applebee's. I'm unable to eat my food. I receive it after and it's cold and disgusting. Arrogant boy made my day worse, as usual.

Top 16 v. Shawn [Abomasnow/Giratina/Bronzong]

I beat him easily both games. He claims that it was due to him getting bad draw both of those games. I disagree. He won against Bela & I (same list) because I had Blissey prized and Bela had Dialga G Lv. X prized. Perhaps I'm missing something, but when you have Bronzong, Abomasnow, Cresselia, Claydol, etc. out, I wouldn't consider that a bad set-up. It's not like he had any special trainers (like Power Spray for G decks) to pull. Whatever. Without Blissey or Dialga G Lv. X prized, all I had to do was heal the damage and kill his guys. His deck is really good and has positive matchups across the board but I don't think it can deal with Dialga G Lv. X...damage reduction and total body shut off (with some slight power shut off).

Top 8 v. Nick [Palkia G/Mesprit/Azelf/Uxie/Crobat G/Spiritomb/Giratina/Bronzong G]

It's funny that Nick had a good match up versus everybody in the t16 except me and newman (who lost in t8 so Nick wouldn't face him anyway). The knock outs were back and forth. I guess my Pachirisu slightly helped but I felt that Dialga G Lv. X was still the superior attacker. He is able to knock out Dialga G Lv. X in the first game, but I use Warp Point, forcing him to bring up Giratina and then I use Deafen. He realizes that I would deafen-ately win on time in this scenario so he decides to scoop this game. Next game he doesn't put up as much of a fight and I get some pretty good flips with Remove Lost.

Top 4 v. Alex [Donkness/Kingdra/Crobat G]

I lose turn one. Next game, he gets pretty much the same set up but I had more basics. I don't feel like torturing myself so I concede. The only way in which I could possibly win this match-up is if I had a Deafen lock beginning in turn 2. This didn't occur.

I am absolutely exhausted and somehow get home not inside a casket. I go home and wake up 12 hours later.

Pro:

Bela, David, Nick, Carlos, Jack, Zach, Colin
Making Top 4
Friday, and all of the activities that included
Jason's hate circle

Low:

Arrogant Boy
Losing to Alex three times due to poor starts
Clock being off

First off Congrats on 3rd.

Second It is SHAWN not Shaun.

Third, You had Dialga G X out the whole game one Blissey prized didnt not lose you the game I beat you and the only thing you did wrong was falling for my Claydol Cosmic Power to weed out your Power Sprays while you let every full moon dance go through.

I beat Bella hands down and he can use the excuse his Dialga G X was prized it would of made a little difference but he only drew 2 prize cards that game both on Unown Gs I let him knock out for my setup. He had bad luck but played a great game.

Next I have no problems losing to you but now you are trying to be well kind of childish about it.

Our first game was a good match I won.

Our Top 16 games you won they were NOT very good games

I scooped Game 1 with only having played 2 energy that game an Active Abomasnow 1 reg Cressy and 2 Giratina NO Xs NO Claydol....I scooped.

2nd Game I had a little better draw but not much sure I had a claydol like turn 5-6 or so I had 1 Bronzong that game 1 Abomasnow 1 Cressy and 1 Giratina on the board....still the set up I got was bad and the little set up I got later was to late.

Its a shame how some can be a good sportsman when they lose but some cant be a good sportsman when they win.....Sorry I am just setting the record straight, anyone that watched that match knows the truth so do not try to attack me I will not argue back just for those that did not see the match let them know how it goes.

First off, it's Bela not Bella. ;] I fixed your name =D
Claiming Dialga G X makes little difference is so wrong. Dialga G X adds 20 HP, meaning that you gain another turn to use PokeTurn or what have you, also it turns off your Abomasnow's protective body and Bronzong's Cursed Stone pokebody (it would hit Claydol, Blissey, Skuntank, Bronzong, Crobat...)
Like I told you, I lost because I didn't know how to play the match, lol. I played very differently the other game...I didn't lay down any useless basics and OF COURSE Blissey helped. Imagine all of those turns I could have used that potion...I can count atleast 10 (prolly more) turns...that's 200 damage I could healed off and you probably would not have gotten all of those prizes. Those two cards are crucial. I already said and continue to praise your deck choice, but I don't appreciate you downplaying my win and I wasn't trying to be arrogant about mine, just pointing out that YES, because I couldn't get Blissey out until the LAST TURN OF THE GAME and because Bela couldn't get out Dialga G X AT ALL we lost to you. I don't see how you could disagree with that....do you not agree that had I had Blissey a few turns earlier that you wouldn't have the ability to kill that crobat or uxie or whatever?

Good Job duude!

I was hoping to have a better showing for my last regs event but I didn't. Oh well, lol...Congrats.....

Arrogant boy? Are you talking about a certain amphy deck?
:p

No, Newman improves my life and is a very comical guy who made a solid deck choice. I was sad I didn't see you in top, too. =[

See you at Nats =D

Great T8 games Jake. If only I had been paired against anyone else, but whatever. I really enjoyed playing ya (as it hasn't happened in like 4 years).

GJ brah.

Oh, and since you listed like all the components of my deck, you may as well go ahead and add in Bronzong G.
Ding Dong!

Good point. And LOL @ your signature.

I enjoyed the intimate moments we shared at regionals. Looking forward to more intimate moments at nats.

Good job hot stuff!
