Pokémon TCG: Sword and Shield—Brilliant Stars

Japanese Metagame

Ijust likethe ability to expand NEW combos and decks, it is an opinion! But, if we DONT expand our thoughts, nothing NEW will be accomplished!!!

The problem I have with the "it's too hard for new players" argument is that this doesn't seem to be a problem in Japan. They have new players there too now and again don't they?

It should NOT be a problem, if the player is willing to TRY something NEW, then just NET decking or copying others ideas. Like I said, if the format was expanded like in Japan or wherever else, this METAGAME would not be so lame, so to speak. It would ACTUALLY save money if it WERE expanded back a few sets because cards would stay in format LONGER than they do now, AND would still have some use possibly!!!

I was a new player last year, I wouldn't have minded buy a box of LM, DS, and UF if I knew they would still be in the format this year. But PUI doesn't care about that since they already made their profit from those sets when they were released.

For this coming format change they should really try to keep PK and possibly DF. Then the format after that just take out PK. But it's more likely that I become President of the US, before they do that. A FYI to add the likeliness of me becoming President, I hate/don't know anything about politics. So I can only dream of those sets staying in the format.

It's kind of in the lines of what 'Pop I believe once suggested:
It wouldn't hurt to "skip" a year of removing sets. Or like he kind of said it, "It wouldn't hurt to go back a year in sets". Meaning we would still have DX legal.

As you know I have only bben playing 4 months TODAY, BUT I know how good that would be!!!

POP is becoming like UDE for pokemon, just mess up the metagame for people sometimes,if we still had DX-on this format would be so better but would just make Gardylade that much better since Exs would be played in a high number.BUt it would be fun

I have been playing for 2 and a half years and mind you, most of the rotations are not that bad, it is to balance the metagame and card usage - especially for new players.

Remember Holon Engine last season? That would be ridicious for newcomers have to spend like $50 on getting a complete engine set... Ah well - at least it rotated out now to make the format more stable....

But still... PK must stay in the format.... please >_>

Last season was my first for OP and I ended up with 7 Transceivers. Maybe 8 ... hard to remember off the cuff. Anyway I had to buy cards to build 4 decks too ... one for each family member. If the Holon Engine were still in format I would almost certainly have 16 by now.

And while everyone and their brother seemed to be moaning about the Holon Engine last season it really would have helped combat Absol back in States. See that's the thing to me. Older cards like the Holon Engine wouldn't have stopped Absol anymore than having LM's Cursed Stone would have stopped people from playing G&G ... but it would have given us more options to combat these cards and decks.

Limiting the format limits options ... and can force people to spend even more money if they really want to stay current and stay competitive. You have to get Mags lv. X or Garde lv. X these days if you want one of the two BDIFs. You have to have the energies and trainers from older sets (Celio's ... expensive now, DRE, Scramble, etc.). Really to build the top two decks are you really spending less than you would have last seaons WITH the holon engine? IMHO the answer is no. All a bigger format does is change what cards you spend your money on now how much you spend.

Thats the only thing i wouldn't like about it all. I got tired of seeing every deck running that engine... :nonono:

On another note however I do wish our format was like theres. It saddens me seeing all these unplayable cards. There would be so many options for players, I wouldn't see the same deck everywhere and you would run into a few decks where you go "Haha a torkoal, wait what? I lost...?" Not to mention Gardy players would have suprize! Time machine and Gardy Ex... Things would get interesting for sure.

Were just all about money here tho :frown:
So i guess my created ideas stay in the league...

Transceiver wasnt even that expensive, look at yugioh cards, people are paying more than 200 dollars for certain cards to win,so 50 for a WHOLE set of holon isnt bad at all.

The thing is tho when u leave some old sets,it makes alot of cards unplayable and harder to use, they left some of the delta species pokes with no trainer support and that makes them unplayable.

If our format was like theirs,it would at least 10 top tier decks and rogue would be even more playable.

^ I agree that the Holon Engine wasn't that expensive, and would really have made the format MUCH better.

Lets say the Holon Engine was still around. Suddenly Hurricane would be able to beat Plox, and have an even better matchup against Magmortar. With Hurricane getting more popular, Vire, Blissy and others would start to be played. Heck, Banette would be evil with the Holon engine still around.

It would have made Soooooooooooooooo many more decks playable, not to mention we would still have some other good DS cards like Jolteon ex...

And the entire format. Transciever plus Holon Lass AND Farmer would have been so broken with that deck! Especially with VolMise to recycle the Lass...wow.

I can agree that it would have mde Hurricane playable,it could beat Plox more than less with the holon, but Banette would destroy so many decks if the holon engine was around, the speed would have doubled for the deck and then we would have Banette Ex to go along with Banette SW,Banette Ex could just destroy Magmortar and make Banette the BDIF hands down since nothing could outspeed it or put out as much damage output so early in the game besides T2 Gallade, which would still get slaughted. 1 could only dream tho :(

But Claydol GE now is the engine mostly for ANY deck if not every deck,Claydol has to be one of the most game changing cards to come out this format. It makes mostly any deck playable.

Can we all get on topic so this thread doesn't get locked.

ok Mr. Mod, it is kind of on topic by comparing our format to theirs and what could have been here as they have there.

Back on topic, if Banette would have gotten big Darkrai LV. X would have been played a little more. With more dark Pokemon available from those sets it would get more combo possibilities, or some not so obvious combos.

That is SO true, that is WHY everyone in Japan is having SO MUCH FUN, using MORE cards and building MORE decks with those varity of cards. I mean I STILL try to come up with NEW combos and decks, but you cant do but so much with JUST 8 sets. If I am not mistaken, they have 16 sets to work with, compared to our soon-to-be 9 sets. I mean COME ON P.O.P!!! Give us some varitey to work with, so we can get OUR Rogues going again. I mean yeah MD is going to change the format, BUT not but so much. Japanese players still get to use cards like Blastoise EX, Arcanine EX, Mew EX, Banette EX, etc. Yeah DP series cards REALLY changed the format and I REALLY like some of those cards(Empoleon, Mismagius, Infernape, Gallade, etc), BUT it REALLY made it BORING!!!

So, I might be wrong, because I am a NOOB and all, BUT I believe I make a good point on this subject, and it would probably make this format MORE exciting again!!!

16 to our 8,it wouldnt be such a bad comparsing if at least most of the DP cards werent terrible, half the set pokes and trainers are just below average,Ape is barely played,Emp is seeing play, but nothing format changing,Vire is near or dead,Toterra......hmmm yea enough said.

If Banette Ex was still around,it could still beat Darkrai Lv.X cuz u couldnt setup a Darkrai Lv.X quick enough to counter all the Banettes that would swarm the field. a T2 90 would destroy any deck and long run would still be strong since it would have charms/PPs/reversals then SW would be even more playable since u could brineys if it didnt get koed and just go to work with Ex,either way,Banette would be the 2nd most versitile deck in the format, but thats just me and I love Banette.

Just the ability to play Absolutions/Medicham/Rock Lock/LBS/Holon Decks/ZRE/Ludicargo/Destiny/etc all in the same format would make the game GREAT!!

THANKS Flygon, WELL PUT!!! You understand what I am saying, and I wasnt even playing then. I just think we NEED to be playing what Japan and whoever else is playing. That gives them a ADVANTAGE over us and other countries, because they get MORE time with the NEW sets and still get to work with the old. Its NOT FAIR to the ones who dont get that opportunity, meaning EVERYONE BUT Japan!!!

That is why I started this thread to get the insight on their METAGAME and how we differ so much to them. Am I NOT making a GOOD POINT here, it needs to be a LEVEL PLAYING FIELD for EVERYBODY, dont you think???
