I far prefer SP to EX's. Out of the top 16 masters at worlds this year, 15 were EX decks, and all of the decks left in the top 8 were EX. At least GG got second at worlds in an SP format.

Personally, I would prefer if they just got rid of special, format ruling Pokemon. No more EX's, Lv.X's, SP, primes (although they weren't as over powered) , none of that. Just play with standard Pokemon. Easier deck building, because most everything would be easier to get, and I believe it would be a more enjoyable game overall.
But that's never going to happen...

I think they're gradually moving towards that. The environment for EX's is turning ever more hostile based on the scans we've seen from the Japanese sets.

I'm amazed there hasn't been Safeguard until Dragons. And Siggy kinda sucks...

But the ultra rares (Or "shiny" cards) are what keeps kids buying cards. I think ur thinking would be awesome, although I do like meh some shiny cards! Maybe UR can be nerfed a little.

Who said anything about getting rid of Ultra Rares? Even if that was the intent, who is hurt by Full Art or cards with special treatments (e.g. Holo cards) being in a set? Just make sure that they aren't "unique". Let people have money and chase cards, but for no more than a set. The FA and the Secret Rare reprints actually have it right... well, they seem a bit too rare themselves, but I am no longer a collector. If other collectors are satisfied, oh well. Just make sure they are either "special" versions of what is already in this set, something that debuted last set, or an advanced copy of something that will debut next set at a lower rarity.

Beartic actually looks semi decent. Not many things one shot it, but after taking a hit, you're most likely able to knockout anything , including EXs.

Could be a viable tier 2 budget deck

All I want is less super powerful number attacks and more interesting effect attacks. That'd make the game a whole lot cooler!

Obviously deliberate for this season. First sets of new season? Suddenly, a wild Safeguard appears! [Edit, clarification: yes Japan got Safeguard earlier in the season than we did. Doesn't matter. Worlds format is not Japan format.]

They WANTED EX pokemon to be super-dominant for a season.

It's not like it's a mechanic they've never used or learned how to balance before.

"Most everything would be easier to get"? Kyurem says hello and proves to you just how valuable and scarce a plain ol' Holo can be if it's good enough.

And Uxie and Claydol were just Rares.

I am playing Articuno EX. I don't care how bad it is. My memories of being lost in Seafoam Islands and repeatedly finding Articuno are just too good to pass this up.

Claydol maxed at $20, and you only needed 2 for a deck. No mater how much a Lv.X cost, you only needed 1~2, because you couldn't play more. Now Darkrai is $40 and you need 3 to run smoothly.

Regardless, without special cards, pull rates would be better, and cards would rarely make it to $40.

I wan't around when Kyurem came out, but isn't it a promo now? (They should make a catcher promo.)

Before Uxie, you could build a competitive deck with only 2 Claydol?

Really?

at least the metagame here 2-2 Claydol was standard, remember this was before bright look Luxray or Garchomp sniping so a benched claylod was usually safe for the entire game. Some decks ran 3-3 but they were the exception rather then the rule. I did ru na 3-3 in my daugthers Machamp deck but that was the only deck we had that ran that many until Jumpluff came out.

This was the case around here too. Claydol was certainly a staple, but there just wasnt as big a demand for having that many on the field, and throughout the season, Powerlocking was big too, so he could easily become dead draw if you ran more than 2.

I ofcourse would play decks running 4-4 Claydol and 4 BTS because i was a consistancy nut, but 2-2 was certainly standard

As far as Articuno ex goes, im actually a bit dissapointed. I was hoping Suicune or Regice would be the next TCG Water type legendary in line. Another trio they probably wont finish =I But yay Giritina non ex!

Here's hoping this is the set that reintroduces babies, preferably with a new mechanic. (sweet sleeping face was good, but the "not evolving" thing was not)

Giratina is a cool POkémon, here's hoping that the non-ex Giratina isn't trash like the ex one.

Giratina EX was played in a deck that won a Regionals (Worlds-qualifying tournament) in Japan. Why do you think it's trash? Giratina 2HKOs Darkrai EX through Eviolite and OHKOs Sigilyph. It serves a niche role in the new metagame.

Remember when people are giving Kyogre EX crap? Somehow 2 copies of it ended up in the U. S. National Championship winning deck.
