Johnston, RI BR Report!

Box of Fail

New Member
I'm Kevin Chao of Seniors.

Okay, well before I start, let me say that we got kicked out of the Johnston, RI venue by the Johnston Fire Department for violating fire safety standards (we went over the Fire Marshall's maximum capacity). So after driving down to RI, we had to go all the way back up to MA, and my favorite league is likely closed forever. Great.

So I had tested a Garchomp C/ Luxray build for a week now, and I decided to go for it. My list was VERY weird, I played Super Scoop Ups. All my lists are pretty weird. Here it is:

Pokemon
3 x Garchomp C
1 x Garchomp C LV.X
2 x Luxray GL
1 x Luxray GL LV.X
3 x Uxie
1 x Vulpix
1 x Ninetales
1 x Azelf
1 x Unown G
1 x Crobat G
1 x Lucario GL
1 x Bronzong G
1 x Roserade GL

Trainer/Supporter/Stadium
4 x Cyrus's Conspiracy
4 x Roseanne's Research
4 x Power Spray
4 x Energy Gain
4 x Poke Turn
3 x SP-Radar
2 x Super Scoop Up
2 x Aaron's Collection
1 x Night Maintenance
1 x Bebe's Search
1 x Premier Ball
1 x Luxury Ball

Energy
6 x Fire Energy - Basic
5 x Lightning Energy - Basic

Back at the new venue in Milford, MA, the tournament starts an hour late due to the move.

R1 VS Marc M. w/ Gallade/ Raichu spread w/ Dialga tech
He opens horribly, I have a decent start. I get the T2 Bright Look on his poor Baltoy. He evetually gets a Claydol going, but I spray the cosmic, then Dragon Rush his Claydol. It just goes downhill for him from there.
1-0

R2 VS James M. w/ Metal Gengar
I get a horrible start to his Pachirisu start. However, he keeps Shadow Rooming Garchomps which I SSU and Turn, then lay back down :p He eventually gets his deck to work and I lose horribly.
1-1

At this point I know I need to pull of 3 wins in a row. That makes me nervous.

R3 VS Somebody whose name I forget w/ a random deck
Arrrgghh! Why did I have to be paired down?! My resistance went down the drain. Needless to say, I won easily.
2-1

R4 VS Aylam R. w/ Flytrap
I open HORRIBLY, he gets a god start (T1 Double Drawer!) but I topdeck the Cyrus. I proceed to get my Garchomp C Lv.X and Lucario GL into play. Bright Look, Flash Impact the Palkia, Dragon Rush his Flygon, and spray his Claydol until I Dragon Rush it too. He gets the Mewtwo X up, and I thank my lucky stars I put the Ninetales in. Fire Blast wins me the game.
3-1

THE PRESSURE'S ON! Aylam and Nathaniel are both 2-2, and only one could possible make top cut on resistance. I need to win out.

R5 VS Adam K. w/ Dialga Lock
I drag up and kill his Baltoys. He never gets the lock going, instead opting to Second Strike. I win pretty easily.
4-1

I'm in! We all wait for deck checks to finish by playing tag outside. Aylam destroys Thomas at tag xD

T4 VS Michael B. w/ Mirror
Really?! A mirror. I thought I was so original with this deck :(

Game 1 I open with junk, he's got a fair start. He keeps a steady 1 prize lead on me the whole time and ends up winning.

Game 2 I draw a god hand. It goes on and on until time was called and I lead by prizes 2 to 3. He had me next turn. Sorry Mike :(

SUDDEN DEATH!

Here comes the epic misplay.

I open with Luxray GL, he with Lucario GL. He goes first, attaches to Lucario, pass.

I bench Lucario GL and Garchomp C, Poké Turn Luxray, send up Lucario, and bench luxray again with a lightning energy.

He draws, benches Unown G and Bronzong G. He announces Galactic Switch. I'm holding a spray, but don't use it because I'm not thinking. He Cyruses for turn and energy, Hidden Power for the only prize.

Good game Mike, Needless to say I was quite mad at myself (I had him next turn), but Mike really deserved the win from game 2. Good luck in the finals!

Anyway, Aylam beat him in the finals, getting in 3-2 on resistance :/

Hey Unown G! You're learning ;)

And don't count League out yet.

nice job kev, and u guys would have never caught me if i played. by the time u realized i was gone, well...u couldn't catch me unless u had as much running training or a car...ya... hope ta see ya real soon!

Thanks guys. Roserade GL is really amazing, what you do is Bright Look Claydol, send up Roserade, and Poison Bind for 30 (even better, 20 with Lucario GL in play!), poisons them, stopping Cosmic, and blocks them from retreating. It buys you turns and wastes turns for them, plus mit ultimately kills Claydol. If you play right with Lucario, Their Claydol will die at the end of their turn, which means you get free turns AND a free attack on a benched Pokémon.
