Pokémon TCG: Sword and Shield—Brilliant Stars

July 2007 NPD: Wii confirmed as WW leader. Now with Top 10 games on each system!

The Wii really has some crappy games Imo, but Brawl is the Wii's trump card. Brawl needs to have online play. The Wii does have some great sports games, Madden is fun to play, and Tigers Woods PGA 07 is cool.

All consoles have some crappy games. Wii has more than one trump card this holiday season. GHIII, Mario Galaxy, and Brawl will all be huge sellers.

Artificial shortage? Yeah, I'm... I'm sure. With this kind of demand, they could pretty much double output and still sell out. But no, I'm sure they're just faking.

As for new games, I'm talking about the future here. It takes time to realize there's a great opportunity, conceptualize a game and develop it. I'm not saying it's absolutely undeniably going to happen, but it would be pretty amazing if devs ignored such a massive market...
Oh bull. Nintendo could be doing much better. Fact is false demand moves units.

Games suck for Wii right now, only must-buy really being Twilight Princess. But developers will look to tailor to the largest market. .: more Wii games.

It's pretty well known at this point that Nintendo is holding stock back for the Christmas rush. As is pretty much every other developer and toy manufacturer in the universe.

It still doesn't change the fact that the Wii outsold the combined Xbox and PS3 numbers in the US in July. 425k units in 4 weeks is pretty darn good, IMO. Averaging about 105k units a week? There are very few gaming consoles in the history of gaming that can claim those kinds of SUSTAINED sales 9 months after launch.

The combined Nintendo systems also outsold all other systems combined by a LONG shot. Heck, the combined Wii and DS sales have outsold all the non-NIntendo systems in the same timespan, and the 87k from the Adv only just pushes all the non-Wii/DS sales over the combined Wii/DS sales.

There is no artificial inflation. Get that idea out of your head right now.

I heard that nintendo just had to divert a bunch of units from japan in a vain attempt to reach demand in the US. That sound like they're holding back?

Sure does. The Wii is cheap and relatively quick to produce. They shouldn't need to divert supply, they could be doing a lot better.

425 thousand units in a month is not artificially decreasing supply, or artificially raising demand. They are producing and selling over 100,000 units per week. Again, has there been a video game console in history that can claim those kinds of sustained numbers nine months or more after its release? (Chris, idk where to get research like that...) DS doesn't really count, cuz it didn't really sell for the first year...

Last generation, Nintendo got burned by vastly over producing the Gamecube. It's understandable that they'd be more cautious this generation. However, supply has already been increased twice already I believe. There is no magic "make more" button. Increasing production takes time as there are many factors involved (making new production lines, hiring people to work them, increasing your order of parts from suppliers, etc.).

It's quite obvious they've been holding some stock back. This shouldn't be suprising as Christmas is right around the corner. Having the supply during Christmas time is far more crucial than having supply now. That's just how it works.

Also, according to Famitsu, Wii did in the 50k region last week in Japan (we'll have to wait until tonight to see what MC tracked) if I remember correctly. Word on the street is that ~30k went to help cover the Metroid Prime 3 release in America. Apparently, right before the game launched, retailers got in more units than usual.

Considering the Wii barely takes more than the Gamecube to produce, you can't justify telling me that they can't produce more than they are right now. Personally I think that holding back demand is a BS (yet effective) marketing technique.

I never said they couldn't produce more; I just said that it takes time and planning to increase production. If Nintendo decided today that they wanted to increase more (and lets be overly generous and say that they also decided exactly how much they needed/wanted to increase production by on this same day) it could be some months down the road before we'd see the increased supply. In reality though, I'm sure they're studying the market really carefully and decisions like that can't be made in a day. Nintendo is a very conservative company anyway.

Additionally, as I mentioned, Nintendo got burned once by over producing. They had to shut down Gamecube production lines because they made far too many that just weren't selling anything like they used to. However, at the same time, we know they have to have plenty of stock that they're storing up for the holidays (as well as a limited amount to keep on hand for replacements and whatnot) and you can't blame them for that. The potential sales they lose now because they don't have the stock would be nothing compared to the potential sales they would lose around Christmas if they didn't have the stock. Additionally, we also know that Nintendo will supply more stock for big games (judging by the MC sales [46,283], which I appologize for not getting up tonight; been busy with orientation, this stock may sometimes be diverted from other areas rather than additional overall stock). They did it for Metroid Prime 3, they'll do it for Mario Galaxy, and I'm sure the week that Brawl comes out will have an even beefier stock than the other upped shipment weeks during the holidays.

Eh, if the number of wiis increase around christmas we can't really say it's to improved production or reserved stocks then, can we?

Whats GHIII ? the only thing I can think of is Guitar hero 3, and the wii wouldn't be the system I bought it for because of extra songs available through xbox live.

Believe it or not, you do not make up a majority of video game purchasers. Additionally, Guitar Hero III for Wii could potentially have downloadable content (Wi-Fi is confirmed), but lets be honest, a lot of the more casual crowd doesn't really care. The Wii version will be $10 cheaper, has rumble, and a speaker (the latter two don't matter much), so it's practically a recipe for success.

Hey,you said it was going to be a trump card, I'm just saying why thats not necessarily true. ;D

A game released for all systems can't really be called a trump card, because its not something new and exciting.Everyone will have access to that game if they own a next-gen console.Reading over EGM,it doesn't look like the wii will be able to support something like downloadable content for a game btw.Its possible but not probable imo.

It can be if it's the cheaper version on the season's hottest system. ;\ The Wii can definately support downloadable content, but, I agree, Nintendo's network probably isn't ready for it yet.

Looks to be just a $10 difference with the Wii's being cheaper. Such a small price to pay for added features of such things as new songs, achievements, better graphics, ect. ;p

I think the Wii hasn't had enough time to really shine with games. The system hasn't even been around for a year. And a lot of the hype with the system is control. The Wiimote is awesome. It's a matter of time before some awesome games come out. Christmas looks to be the time.
