Pokémon TCG: Sword and Shield—Brilliant Stars

June 4th: Hypnotoxic Laser banned from the Professor Cup!

Due to the total domination of Whirlipede/Poison decks at the European Prof Cup, OP has banned Hypnotoxic Laser to balance the format. Better late than never.

Props on the title.

I bet dozens of people clicked that link ready to rant.

Don't know what Professor Cup is and I don't care. Nobody runs Whirlipede here anyway. We run TDK and Darkrai/Hypnotoxic Laser decks. Who bans cards? Really? Pokémon NEVER bans cards. They just rotate them. Even if we had something like this in Canada, I wouldn't participate. I can't run TDK without Laser.

If you don't care, why bother complaining?

The Professor Cups are yearly events held in conjunction with the USA Nationals and one of the European National events - UK Nats this year.

Participation is limited to active Professors that have earned a certain number of Professor points in the previous year.

The format is something different, this years is the following:

Rules for Deck Construction
Only cards from the BW set on may be used. Black Star Promo Cards numbered BW01 and higher will be allowed.
30 card format: Constructed.

Additional Rule: "Kiddie Pool"

Pokémon used must be able to evolve to a Stage 1 or Stage 2 Pokémon.
For example:
• Tepig can evolve to Pignite and so would be allowed.
• Pignite can evolve to Emboar and so would be allowed.
• Emboar is unable to evolve and so would not be allowed in a deck.
• Bouffalant is unable to evolve and would not be allowed in a deck.

Card restriction:
Hypnotoxic Laser (Black & White-Plasma Storm 123/135 Uncommon) Is not permitted in Professor Cup decks.

Occasionally some really strong deck is discovered that really takes advantage of the rules in a way that was not intended, basically breaking the format and meaning there is only one or two decks played at all.

This year had that happen, hence the ban, for the NA Professor Cup only, of HTL...

Woooooow.... There's failing to understand the situation, and there's being this lazy. It even explains it in the first post.....

Taking time to actually read the post would be nice too. European cup was littered with bugs, and this balances things out a whole lot more now.

It makes me sad that P!P is so quick to ban cards that are bad for the format from the professor cup, but not from OP...perhaps in the future P!P will consider bans or limits on cards that curtail the format to much.

When literally an ENTIRE (semi-large event) topcut consists of one deck and ONLY that one deck in the actual metagame, then a ban on that card might be something to consider.
