It would be nice to fill the void with events from Pokemon, but isn’t that what Battle Roads are for?

I understand they are Fall and Spring and this does leave some additional void time, but these are the times that PUI are taking to plan for future Nationals and coordinate future Worlds events. This “down” time we see is also a chance for PUI to verify all Tournament results to that point are correct and all issues (Warnings, Game Losses, etc.) are documented and possibly penalties are handed down.

Understanding that you are already involving Local Tournaments through your TO, you do have the opportunity to publicize here on the PokeGym and the OP site does list local tournaments. Our Y2K League did End of Month Tournaments that got sidelined from all the other Tournaments going on but those will start back up again soon to help fill the void, and we do get some players outside of Fort Worth that come over to Play!

The “REAL” problem is that most players want the points and only travel if they feel the tournament is beneficial to that end result of 1900+. During City and Battle Roads even some players don’t travel outside the comfort zone they create, so pulling others in for non K Valued Tournaments is difficult. Vince hit it on the head that mostly Pay to Play tournaments work. I tend to come up with interesting ideas that force people to think outside the box to find new combos (No Rares, 30 Card, 2-v-2, Basic Only, Single Card, Ghost only, Must have X Pokemon in the deck (X being a specific Pokemon), etc.) to keep things fresh.

It would be nice if there were some traveling conventions, like JAA, during off times, but there again you run into logistical issues and making sure they are done before the next round comes up! NTM these would only hit 1 weekend so you still have the 4+ left over!

Now if PUI did some sort of MINI Tournament with no K Value but better Prizes at the end, this would be interesting and might be equivalent to the Japan Winter Battle they just did where it could be setup in a similar venue of Win X times and win X Card. This would require PUI to establish a form of PCL like Japan as this would be the End Result!

It could work where the Top 8 Finishing Masters (18 and Older for Legal Purposes) are Contracted for one Year to Travel and do these Tournaments during this period. That would be great and give a real sense of Ownership to the National Champion and the runners up!

But again, that isn’t necessarily going to cure everything as it would be traveling and only be in place for a weekend!

lol, I don't think that would work with people going to school and having jobs and stuff.

I think we should have a big cash event at worlds, perhaps right after the main event.

I understand that people have jobs and such. If it were done on the weekend, it might more conseivable. NTM you could have alternates there as well such as the tops finisher form the US at Worlds.

We know hte reality, but don't kill hte Dream!

The Top Cut is looking into hosting an event sometime after regionals. Probably during the Spring Battle Roads season or possibly in the summer so more people have the oppurtunity to attend.

seriously: where is the budget for such a series of events supposed to come from? because of course these should be FREE, just like every other event, no?
Maybe I'm beating a dead horse here, but my local library does NOT charge for use of the meeting room.
FEES

There is no charge for meeting room use.

If there were enough league players, the league could get creative with their events. I wouldn't mind a "Gallade Holiday Event" were Gallade and Gardevoir get to stay home for the day (Blissey should probably stay with him). Anyone who thinks the events are free hasn't been keeping track of what the spend on cards. The real challange is to build a large and consistant league membership. Would it work to charge $2.50 for league and top half of winners get a booster pack. Not a huge amount of compitetion. But it does provide an opportunity pull some new cards and trade them. Lots of winners. It would be very doable to learn, trade and work your way into the top half during the course of a season. (Can't do this because league has to be free, right?) How do you swell your ranks at league? What has worked for others? Is there another thread that aready addresses this?

I would love Challenging events like decks limited to Cards from say Ruby & Saphire, Dragon, Deoxys and Emerald.. Something real limited that would challenge a persons deck building ability.

Also why had there never been an "Official" 2 active pokemon Tournement. I would love to see events run on that format. Why have it in the rules if it is never ever used?

Hey, it's possible to have large scale events even at a league location (if you have the room of course) if you have the right timing and decent prizes. For example, in between the GE prereleases and States there's room for a weekend where you can do what we are planning on doing at our league. We're inviting everyone to a pre-States (in this case pre-Provincial) event called Gamer's Lair Gym Challenge. More or less it's an event to get everyone up to speed with any new decks that may have been generated by GE - just before it's critical to have - on March 1! I'm sure many from the greater Toronto area will be interested in coming up to check it out, and maybe metagame a bit. So really, TIMING is EVERYTHING!
