Level X Pokemon

While i was looking at Rare Candy and Level X pokemon, I was wondering if you can rare candy to a level X pokemon. An example is Rare Candying a Magmar (Basic) into a Magmortar X which technically be a stage 2 pokemon due to Magmortar being stage 1.

Level X are not evolutions at all, so you cannot Rare Candy them. When played, the LvX becomes the stage of the Pokemon it levels up.
