For those who don't know this collection came out in Japan in September of 2012 and has a guaranteed number of playable cards from BW1 (Black and White Base) through BW5 (Dragons Exalted) with 2 copies of each card (even the EXs!), and was notable for containing what would be our EX tin promos of Darkrai Mewtwo and Rayquaza. All card, even EX, were non holo. It also has a book in Japanese that explains the basic strategy of the cards in the box along with pro level decklists and what cards from the sets not included are good to get.

It has numerous playable trainers and energies. It runs for about 4200 yen or around $45 USD. Quite the deal when you consider in the US getting 6 of the EX tins runs about $90 with no guarantee of the playable cards like eels, rare candy, catcher, dark patch etc...

Recently the Elite Trainer Box was released to the US. Upon first hearing about it I thought it was going to be something like this. Sadly it was not. This is just the type of product need in the US and every non Japanese country in the world. Buying just 2 of these boxes gives you enough tools to make MULTIPLE high level decks, why are things like this being kept from release outside of Japan. Even just a book of that strategy would be amazing to just give to a Junior or Senior level player. I have ordered the box and I can attest to the quality. I would have gladly paid $50-75 for this product in English.

What is the gym's thoughts on the product?

You could also complain about Japanese theme decks containing new Pokémon cards and reprints of catcher every single time.

Things are what they are, but TPCi is concerned about the fact that buyers are more collectors than players.

It would probably kill any & all sales of boosters/starters.
It would kill the single card market.
Etc.

Basically it's about the $.

I would think that these sets come out at the end of a cycle for a reason.
Most of the "great" players already have the cards.

So is it that the bulk of the buyers are collectors and they won't buy a $40 product geared towards players, like Zarmakuizz says?

Or is it that by selling this the bulk of the buyers, who are players, would only buy this instead of packs and singles if it were released as EricDent says?

This inconsistant thinking really doesn't add up to a real reason. For one they attempt to release products geared at players such as the ETB so that can't be the entire reason. And pokemon cares not at all for the secondary market. Look at the price of cards like Luxray GL Lv X or Gengar Prime back in the day. There really is no good reason.
