Welcome back to another CC report by yours truly PKM4. So after my win at Lancaster I decide to play the same deck at Malibu the next weekend. I knew a lot of the top So Cal players were going to be there. I think masters had over 40 players with 5 rounds and a top 8 cut. I end up going 3-2 with my only losses due to an Unown G start both times. To my surprise I finish 11th only three spots out of the top cut. When I got back home I decided to make some serious adjustments to my deck before Bakersfield the next day. I changed a few cards and I was ready to go FTW.
I don’t know if it was because of the holidays or the weather but the Masters turnout was smaller than I anticipated. Usually we get about 30 Masters or more but this time there was only 15. This sucked because with 15 players there was only a top 2 cut. This means I had to go undefeated or be a very lucky 3-1 because there were only 4 rounds.
Round 1 vs. Wes – Beedrill
I start with Infernape 4 and he starts with Weedle. I’m first so I attach and pass. He whiffs on a poke radar and calls for another Weedle. I attach a second energy, Flash Bite, Poke Turn, Flash Bite, Split Bomb for a prize. He candies to bee, attaches a plus and does 40. I gain and hit for 50 for game. 1-0
Round 2 vs. Ryan – Blazeray
The dreaded re-match from Lancaster. Both of us didn’t want to play this early but we couldn’t do anything about it. He took two early prizes and then I took control when I OHKO his Luxray GL Lv.X. All of his fire energy we’re in the discard pile and he couldn’t get his Night Maintenance. I took my last few prizes with Flash Impact for game. 2-0
Round 3 vs. Joel – Kingdra
There’s only one option in this match and that’s to get out Luxray GL Lv.X with Lucario GL and that’s exactly what I did. 3-0
Round 4 vs. Matt – Dialga G/Garchomp C
I had the total advantage deck wise but there’s not much I could do with a start of Uxie, four energy, palmer’s, and spray. 3-1
So I was the lucky person that was 3-1 and made it to top cut for a much wanted re-match over my only loss.
Finals: vs. Matt – Dialga G/Garchomp C
Game 1: Due to my much better start this game I was able to withstand a couple of early KO’s from his chomp and I got my Ray and Ape powered. I took over with my board control and he scooped the first game just after the 30 minute mark. 1-0
Game 2: This started off similar to the first game. Once I got going I was able to keep control and at the end I took my last three prizes just before time was called. 2-0
Another great tournament for me that ends with a victory and my 2nd medal of the season. I would like to thank my family, my deck, and all of Team Bases for sweeping all divisions.
