Oh, man, I was waiting for this since the DF prerelease.
I haven't slept the entire four-day weekend.
Then again, I think I ate too much to be comfortable.
Darn'd Thanksgiving, you've done it again...

Welll, I got there fairly early.
Turns out the library is maybe a few minutes drive from my grandmother's house.
Maybe fifteen of us and I waited for the library to open, at 10.
I helped set up the tables and junk, it was a pretty neat room.
We had exactly enough tables to seat everybody playing.
Nothing really special happened beforehand.
Michael and I just talked about things like Naruto, ebay, Pokemon Diamond, and Power Keepers.

We got right to it.
I played my failure of a KingLatios deck.
24 players in the master division, 4 rounds, top 8 cut.


Round 1 vs. Andrew Knaack (Feraligatr+Nidoqueen)
I got cocky first thing.
I had Latios ex and Latias *on bench, with a Jirachi active.
I didn't pay enough attention to his field, and he had a Nidoqueen and Feraligatr out turn three.
I knocked out Feraligatr with the Latios ex.
He takes a few turns to add to the discard pile, and like a n00b I don't realize what's going on.
He uses Vengance for 100 and pwns the crap out of me, and I can't kill the stupid queen because she has a metal energy.
Knocks out Jirachi, Latios, Latias, another Latias, and Drags Off Latios ex for the win.
I can't believe I was such a frikin moron.
The game ended with me still having five prizes, him none.
Loss.

Round 2 vs. Marshall Cary (Altaria, ex, Salamence ex, Nidoqueen)
I had this game and I lost it.
Latios ex, Latias *, Lati@s block, everything.
I knocked out a Bagon and Holon's Castform first thing.
He managed to get out 2 Altaria ex and 3 Salamence ex by turn 4.
I pwned his Salamence, and then got murdered attaching three energy per turn.
I started to use Ice Barrier with Latios ex, but just ended up getting my fully powered Latias * n00bed in the face by Flame Jet.
In a very fast few turns, I knocked out 1 Salamence ex, while he annihilated my Latios ex with Vengance (again?).
It was mostly a battle to see if I could lock him.
Got a Cessation Crystal, and my Lati@s block, but he just plowed right through them.
I only had two prize cards left.
If I had just knocked out that Salamence with 60 damage on it before he knocked out my Latios...
Loss.

By this time I'm feeling pretty bummed.
There's no physically possible way I can make the cut.
But, I'm going to four more cities, so I'm not that depressed.

Round 3 vs. Sean Turnst (Burning Liability)
People still play this?
I was really confident for some reason.
Probably just because this is the oldest deck in modified format.
I knock out two Cyndaquils very fast, and a Koffing.
He said that he was missing one card to have the god hand.
Latios just plowed through everything.
He didn't draw any energies or evolutions.
At one point, be got a Typhlosion, but I just watered it down to nothing.
Then he got an energy on a last Cyndaquil, and the buggar paralyzes me five times.
I got a little scared, but I finally called game after a tails.
I don't know about him, but the entire game became a farce to me.
I feel sorry for him.
I tried to see how many cards I could possibly get in my hand.
I ended with thirty one.
He still had all six prizes.
Win.

I'm a little bit happier.
I carpool with Jeff M. and we go to Carl's Jr.
Then we go back.
That was the fastest I have ever eaten.
Matt told me about Scary Movie 4.


Round 4 vs. Jerry Knaack (Venasaur+Roselia)
Really, REALLY quick game. Get out Kingler successfully(finally) and rapidly KO his Sunflora, Bulbasaur, and Sunkern.
He benched out.
We ended with me having 3 prizes and he all six.
Win.

I hang around bored out of my mind to get the rest of the tournament in.
I pick up here and there, and watch the other games.
I trade a whole crap load.
I got two more Latios exs and three Latias exs.
...Still bugged Michael to death for a Deoxys for emerald or promo Japanese Latios.

The library closed at 5.
The master's top cut never finished.
They left to Del Taco to play, and I went home.
Frikin Hilarious.
Peter ends up winning.
...Again.

Congratulations on your victories. Your deck seemed interesting, but I didn't really see the connection between Kingler and the Lati's. Was Kingler just a strong fire type to back up your Dragons? Anyway, the tournament was run very nicely. BTW, I was the guy who went undefeated in Swiss with Arcanine/Medicham, but lost at Top 8 because I got T2'd twice x_x! Good luck at future Citys!

I think I lost because I changed the focus of my deck.
Originally, I put in Kingler as the main hitter, and I had some space left, so I put in Lati@s block.
It grew from tehre, and I just put in Latios ex that I got at the prerelease.
But as soon as I did that, I split the focus between the two, and it failed.



BTW how did you make the connection I had the headband?

Riverside

My second CC this year.
Can NOT sleep the night before.
Played Children of Mana till 12 or something.
Woke up at 5 and played SSBM till 7:30.
Get ready, leave at 8:45.
Get to a new place, UCRiverside looks aight.
Get there 9:40, stupid road construction.

There's only a few people there when I get there.
I try to get a Latias ex for my deck.
I can only borrow one from the time we registered an hour and a half later.
Take a few piccys of the scenery, it's just so awesome.

We get started right away.
Matt got everything set up in awierd way.
There are 40 players with no age divisions.
Everybody plays everybody until the cut.
Prizes still awarded to the individual winners.

Nothing special whatsoever.
We screw around with Michael's PSP for a while.
Accept for the fact that some moron kept going "I'm the best" very loudly.
Over and over and over.


Round 1 vs. Dan B (Arcanine, Blissey)
Never seen this deck idea before.
I didn't like the Arcanine idea, tho (Thank you Peter N.)
It's a small struggle to knock out a 160HP Blissey with both Latios ex and Latias ex.
Use consistent Ice Barrier to keep him from attacking me.
He keeps switching, using Mewtwo to rearrange energy.
I learned that Holon Farmer has been errata'd over a year ago (c'mon, I'm supposed to know about these things).
Thank God Arcanine is weak to Latios.
Latias * to intimidate him.
He accidentally slips his deck onto his hand, I let it slide.
Eventually he concedes.
I have no idea as to whether he felt guilty for making mistakes or mad at me for making fuss.
It ends at 2-4 prizes.
Win for me.

Round 2 vs. Nick P (Feral, Sally, Alt)
Oh, God, I see far too many of these.
It's like the new LBS.
He can't get any evolutions out.
Eventually, he get's out UF Feraligatr (Why haven't I seen this before?)
He knocks out a Latios, I knock it out with Latias.
Then it just goes on with another Latios, slowly knocking out his basics.
He finallly get's out a Feraligatr ex and Altaria ex.
Continued Ice Barrier to protect myself.
Time is called with prizes at 1-4.
Win for me again.

My dad picks me up some Carls Jr.
We go in the car to watch Snakes on a Plane.
Unfortunately, he accidentally recieved The Lion King instead.
So I finish eating and go in.

Nathaniel practically flies through the air after tripping over a chair (He's frikin 4 foot)
He keeps bugging me to get a pic of him.

Oh, man, I'm scared.
Every time I've gone 2-0 first thing, I'm shot down and lose every battle afterwards.
I just hope for the worst.
I'm also annoyed out of my frikin mind because the "I'm the best" guy wouldn't shut up.

Round 3 vs. Aron G (Gardy)
This was scary for me, despite he was younger than I.
He get's a lone Jynx on the field, while I got Latias and H Castform.
I Delta Draw for maybe 10 cards, he still hasn't benched anyone.
I've got 3 energy on Latias, I jsut retreat and knock jynxy out.
5-6 prizes.
First one done that round.

I don't know what's going on.
My safeguard technique is pwning his, I'm knocking out his Banettes like mad.
He keeps benching basics when I start to think it's over.
It was a long and painful match.
But, sabes que, both of us were making the cut, whether he or I won.

His deck got checked, and it ended up having 61 cards in it.

I am so incredibly PO'd at this prick.
He severely abused my only weakness and I lost in 3 turns flat.
His Espeon frikin pwned my butt.
Had he not warp pointed my Latias to the bench, I could've taken out his Espeon before it was an Espeon.
Loss.

Matt, I'da liked t've been told about this earlier.
i thought it was Swiss 2/3 (Like every other tournament I've ever attended).
I felt so cheated.
Hey, at least, I assume, I won't lose a lot of points due to his win expenctancy being higher than mine.

I let him borrow a Latios* (am I mad?)
Well, he won.
Yet again, I helped someone win a championship.
I just wish that it might be me.

My only win was the bye first round.

So I turned out 1-3 with a resistance of crap and my rating even crappier.

What I don't understand is that I used the deck that got me 4-1 in Riverside.

Oh, well, traded a bunch, got my trancievers back...

Chung, I want my Latios* back pronto!!!

I don't know what it was, I was knocked out before I could see his entire deck.
All I saw was an Espeon, Umbreon, and Jolteon.


Today was awesome.
I woke up at about 6 in the morning, totalling 6 hours this night.
So I get ready slowly.
I get at the inn at around 9:45.
This is the exact same place the CC was last year.
"Huntington Beach: The Smallest Revenue in Pokemon History!"

I get ready for the tourney.
I try out a Feral Queen deck I recently came up with, and it can seriously use some tweaking.
I decide to run my Lati@s.
Yes, the same deck that ran 4-0 in Riverside and 1-3 in El Segundo, the 1 being a bye.
Sell two trancievers for ten bucks (duuuuude!).
Paul is trying to get me to buy packs, I get three of LM and DF.
I get nothing.
So it came up to $15, which I'm glad only $5 I had before today.
Michael got his PSP and shows us a cllip of WarioWare for the Wii.
I am now menally scarred; ask Jake or Timm or the other guy who's name I never learned.

Round 1 vs. Jeff M (Altaranite[hey, if someone can find a better name for this, tell me.])
Oh, this guy is one of my oldest Pokemon friends, next to MHZ.
I have never before played him in a tournament, so I'm a bit scared.
I know from the league that he runs mean decks.
I sped through my deck a little bit fast.
He gets a fully powered Dragonite ex out, so I get out Latias* and annihilate it.
He then annihilates me with his other Dragonite which he powers up with Altaria.
Had I not let him knock out my H Castform in the 3rd turn, I could've won this.
It's pretty even the entire game.
I get rid of a Pelliper, he KOs a Latias.
"TIME!"
Beginning of my turn, I have 3 prizes left while he has 2.
There is no physically possible way to knock out either a Dragonair and go to Sudden Death, or Altaria ex and win.
(After the tourney, I pop in some Pokemon Reversals.)

I've known Jeff to be a cool guy, and he'll do stuff to help people.
But I made the mistake of getting to table 2 for the first round.
I could not move from my table until ten minutes after the round ended.
This, being the smalles venue in Pokemon history, I'm stuck.
Everybody nearly fled to the outside to hang out, since it's so frikin crowded in there.
Then I met up with the other guy that went 4-0 at Riverside (he didn't win either).
Second time I've ever met him.
Later I learn that he's younger than I by a few months (yes, I know "I" sounds odd, but it's grammatically correct.), so I decide to try to keep him as my friend.
He even made the cut, again, while I fell behind.
Go John!


Round 2 vs. Chris G (Gyaraduck+Gatr)
Another really good friend.
Hung out at Worlds at Starbucks for like 2 minutes, just started doing nothing.
This game was very fun for both of us.
He hit an energy drought for the first 7 (?) turns.
So I take the opportunity to kill off his basics (Nidoran, Totodile)
Eventually, he grabs a Gyarados and evolves it, gets a Metal on it.
This is a slight threat, so I get rid of it with Latias.
Much later in the game, he sees my huge 22 card hand.
This is when, in a sence, the game became a game. (that sounds soooo stupid.)
I make a comment that made more sence in my head than in words, and unfortunatley, everyone aorund me heard it.
He copycats for 22 cards, and now has only 2 cards left in his deck.
He's got a Rayquaza ex up with 90 damage on it.
He keeps telling me not to knock it out.
He got 3 energies on it, but doesn't do anything, and passes.
He tells me not to do anything again, so I pass.
He decks out, raising his fists in the air, "YESSS!"
Prizes ended at 1-6.

i try forever to get someone to carpool me, but everyone's gone already.
So I just walk over to Carl's Jr. alone.
Once there, I meet up with Michael, Lynette, Jake, Timm, and John.
I leave with John, Paul, and Chung.
Immediately out, we see two bums, who are interested by us four teenagers walking by.
"What are you doing, a tournament?"
"Yeah," says Paul.
"What for?"
"Pokemon."
"...What?"
"Pokemon!"
"...Pokemon?
Are you serious?"
Later on..."Dude, we just got pwned by hobos!"

I look at the pairings for round three, and Ii'm recorded as 0-2.

Chrisbo accidentally recorded Chris as the winner.
then he remembered Chris said he decked out.
So it takes another half hour to fix the pairings.

It's okay, Jon (WPM) sets up his laptop to the giant TV in the room and plays the Manaphy movie.
...See, this is why i don't watch the show anymore.

Round 3 vs. Andrew K (Banette)
Oh, crap, son, this is the dude that owned my butt in Foundtain Valley.
I hope my changed deck works out.
I T2 him.
I am happy and confused at the same time.
He assencions his lone Shuppet, into a CG Banette.
it's my second turn, I attach a 3rd energy to Latias ex and kill him with Power Crush.
*this is what I LOVE about my deck, a technique I now call safeguard replacement.*
A benched latias HP allows me to do that and breach his Safeguard.
His face burned when he read Latias's body.
Prizes ended at 5-6, he benched.

Round 4 vs. Dean B. (Arcanine + Blissey)
Basically, I can't get enough energy on Latios's to OHKO his Arcanine.
I benched out, only having Latios HP and Tropius.
Had he not played Holon Lass, I believe I would have had the game.
Prizes ended at 6-4.

Round 5 vs. Dan B. (Banette+Delcatty+Nidoqueen)
Last guys father, how quaint.
These two are usually tough.
I safeguard replace 2 Banettes.
My free retreat gets rid of his delcatty, and his only threat, Nidoqueen.
I draw my last prize, he still has 2 left.

The only way I'd be getting the cut is if my resistance is godly.
Everybody I played continued losing, Jeff dropped, so no such luck.
Lynette manages to get in at 3-2.


Afterwards I try to pawn off my Charizard*.
Nobody wants it.
I just relax and wait to be picked up.
I sit down with Paul, and he quizes me easy Chemistry.
I don't know how we got there.
Chrisbo gets SSBM set up for his daughter.
I start playing with them, and my dad shows up, telling me to go, so I kill myself.
I get my stuff together, and find out I'm missing a deck.
I can't find it at all.
I'm scared to frikin death looking for it, Jose helping me.
My mom appears at the doorway with my deck in her hands.
My dad frikin took my deck.
He tried to mak a point, that I should take better care of my stuff.
My deck was right in front of me, I think that's enough care [keep it clean! :mad:]

Well, I got three more CCs to go to.

I get there early, as usual.
However, there are at least 50 people already there.
Althogh the registration started at 10, we didn't get started till 12.
there's a crapload of new people.
At least two entire families new.

Roud 1 vs. Alan C (Shiftry)
First time I've seen this deck in a long time.
Well, I got the God hand.
Start out with Latias, while he a Seedot.
I Power Crush it like a retard, and he get's a Koffing out.
Koffing is to stall, he get's Seedot all powered up into Shiftry ex fast, and get's me out.
His target attack is murder.

Anything could happen.
It's lunch, so I head out to AM PM.
Get a cup of ramen and root beer, as usual.
Afterwards, I hang out with Paul, Peter, Mark, and some other guy I never got his name at the retarded sofa.

The seat is 3 feet long, so it's impossible to actually "sit" on it.
We got a kick out of some of the stuff we talked about.
Go to the bathroom, find a deck, and turn it it.
I think it belonged to a newcomer.

Round 2 vs. Doug (Typhlosion)
This guy is cool.
Reminds me of Jon Foreman.
Said he's only been playing for 4 weeks.
Maybe I should consider befriending him.
Okay hand.
He get's out Trapinches, which seriously threaten my exs.
I send in Latias HP to defend, which had P resistance.
I stall and get 8 energies onto the bench, allow the Latias to ke KOd, and KO him.
Retreating constantly get's me the win, keeping his basics as basics.

Round 3 vs. Jim D (Gardevoir)
Oh, his name is Jim.
This guy is so noticeable.
He brings around a 3 Liter bottle of coke everywhere he goes.
All I remember from this battle is my Ice barrier kept him from really doing anything.
That combined with Latias ex, Latias*, and Battle Frontier.

"Dead man walking" is what I repeated five times before sitting down.
Oh, man, he's got my only weakness.
Metanite is baaaaad.
Both my stadiums and locks were gotten rid of super fast.
He uses the Metanite strategy perfectly.

Round 5 vs. Jesse (Sallygross)
Can't remember anything other than what I wrote down.
I Hydro Splashed his Castform immediately, and he get's his Sally all powered up.
A lack of crystal shard and Sally's resistance won it for him.

Poor Peter got 9th place.
he practically stormed out of the place.
So me, JIm, and some other guy my age that I can't remember for the life of my just hang out, talking about this website that he helps design.
This goes on for maybe an hour.
Watch some Youtube of Jim blowing stuff up with dry ice, and of a retarded Pokemon player using thunder on a Flygon.


I owned John's wallet.
Gave me $25 for a Charizard*.
Chung gives me four DF packs for a Steelix ex and Nidoqueen.
In one of them is a Mew*.
Great, another one.
why can't I get the usable *s?

La Mirada

I get carpooled by Peter.
We're passing through beautiful La Mirada.
I'm thinking that this is going to be some awesome tourney because of the scenery.
However...
We completely pass the good stuff and get into a block that looks like Tijuana meets East LA.

I get there early.
Just as early as I did the Irvine, except there are only Jesse, Micheal, Jake, Lynette.
Those guys are ALWAYS early/first ones there.
Get a bunch of pics of the venue.

It takes frikin forever and a half for the first round to begin.
Mostly because Jesse is so considerate, he waited for everyone to finish their decklists, even though they arrived AFTER the registration ended.
Cool.
I meet up with John again.
Haven't seen him since Huntington Beach.
We hang out for a bit waiting for the tourney to start.


Rund 1 vs. Marshall C (Mewtric)
Never played this deck before.
Second time I played Marshall.
We're on table one next to Chris and Marshall's friend.
All of us save Chris start quoting Yu-Gi-Oh abridged.
"Finally, Pegasus' castle. Now I can win this tournament and the prize money, and buy myself some new friends."
"What about your sister, Joey?"
"Yeah, I'll buy a new sister, too."
Even though we got paired, we didn't start for at least 15 minutes.
This was an interesting game.
it's pretty even for most of the game.
I have the lead on him, and KO two of his Electrikes early in the game.
He doesn't have enough to evolve completely.
I get up Latios ex and his Ice Barrier.
With only Mew exs and Manectric exs, he can't do anything, so he sends up Mew ex and versatiles Ice Barrier.
By now, it's a complete standstill.
He doesn't do much, mostly because of lack of energy.
I get my Latias* and Latias ex powered up.
He then retreats for Manectric, attacks my benched Latios for a KO.
I send up Latias ex and KO him with strength charm.
Prizes and at 0-3.

Jesse announces that it's lunchtime.
How much time do we get?
over an hour and a half, after the round ended.
John got a bye, and I finished at about 20 minutes.
Since everyone else was stlll playing, we headed over to an available Taco Bell.
As we're eating, we see Micheal, Lynette, Jake, some random Indian kid I've never seen before, Paul and his twin the other John, Matt, Jeff, Chris, Mary, and Chris's friend, Marshall and his friend, Tommy, Danny, and just about everyone else.
the line extended outside the door.

We've still got an entire hour when we get back to the store.


round 2 vs. Leo O (Metanite)
C'mon, man, this guy is brutal!
Comes with Chung playing the same Metanite, I'm almost sure it's the exact same deck.
I had him at first with a God hand and Battle Frontier out.
I keep on KOing his people so I'm up two prizes.
He then gets a windstorm, and it's all downhill from there.
I play another Battle Frontier, which get's ws'd, and a Holon Legacy, which got ws'd.
I'm screwed.
He's got enough damage so that i can KO him next turn and gain an advantage, but he switches for the game.
Prizes end at 3-0

Round 3 vs. Paul J (Megasteel)
I should've called this guy on disruption of the game.
His frikin bleached white hair distraced me the entire game.
We're playing standing up, which is totally awesome.
Micheal, who was standing next to me without a chair, eventually just kneeled.
He gets down 2 energy by the time my Latios' Hydro Splash can work, so I KO a few basics.
It takes him another four turns to get an energy, till I get 2 prizes.
He evolves into Meganium ex and Steelix ex, and without energy just made this game a LOT faster.
prizes end at 0-6.

I still can make it to the cut.
I get anouther 12 dollars by selling random cards.


Round 4 vs. John J (Flygon)
The twin of the Paul.
I'm a bit scared, cuz I know what he's made of.
The game is so incredibly even for most of the game.
it ended on time, with prizes at 2-5, so the game is his.
A lot of the game was relying on the hope of him not having certain cards, which he always did.

Kinda disappointing;
I've been to 6 cities, and only once made the cut.
Well, John makes the cut, so it's alright.
Somehow, he makes the cut even though his first was a bye.
i hang out for another hour till I head home.
Peter's gone, so I gotta call my pop to pick me up.
 
Enrique...you silly guy, the reason they were allowed, was we were still inputing ppl into the system...not my fault that inputing 50+ players for a sunday tourney takes time!! hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm, the same reason that saturday took awhile too - 100+ players takes time to input. so even if we stopped and did the cut off we still had players to put into the system. I think next I just wait and input yours last, giving you a RND 1 loss :wink: :wink:
but thanks for having your decklist filled out for me, now imagine if all players that attend a CC have them already filled out - how much smoother things would run!!
