Pokémon TCG: Sword and Shield—Brilliant Stars

My first CC win!

PKM4

Hey everyone! I’m PKM4 and this report details how I won my first City Championships since I started playing Pokémon five or six years ago. So anyways here’s how it all went down.

The first week of the CC season I drove down to Granada Hills, CA with my brother and sister. This was on Black Friday and it was a long day. On that particular day I played Kingdra and made the Top 8 and lost to Luxray GL and Blazeiken FB. I had a good run that day. Now we fast forward to the second week of CC season and it’s my home tournament in Lancaster, CA. I knew that Kingdra is a pretty consistent deck with the only really bad matchups being Luxray GL with a Lucario G tech and anything that plays Spirtomb. The day before the tournament I look through all of my decks and try to figure out what the best play would be and the most consistent deck. I decided that I would play something SP because it has so much variety and it has decent matchups against almost every deck in the format. The two decks I was debating to use were Palkia Lock and Luxape. I still wasn’t sure what to play so I slept on it. In the morning I decided to go with Luxape because I was more familiar with the deck and I thought it was way more consistent than Palkia Lock. Now on to the tournament….

There were going to be five rounds with a top four cut. Let the best player win.

Round 1 vs. Nicole P - Beedrill

This happened to be an odd match because this was my sister. I ended up donking her lone Baltoy and winning the match. After this match we came up with a fantastic idea. We played again and I switched to my Palkia Lock deck. Everyone started watching and was saying they didn’t want to play me. I and Nicole were just laughing because everyone fell for the decoy deck. 1-0

Round 2 vs. Ryan D – Palkia Lock

He fell for the decoy too until I had no basic so he saw my hand. He shook his head and we both started smiling when he realized what I did. I was 10 damage away from donking him. It turned into a highly contested match and towards the end I had a key card prized and on top of that I made a huge misplay that ended up costing me a chance to win. 1-1

Round 3 vs. Adrian K – Luxray/Raticate

I got paired down and I had a good start and won on the third turn of the game. 2-1

Round 4 vs. Brian B – Mightytank

This was a tough match but I was able to play though it and nail some timely Power Sprays that helped me win. 3-1

Round 5 vs. Thomas B – Golem/Sandslash

I had an amazing start while he never got going. 4-1

So I did all I could to get into the top cut. I come to find out that there is one undefeated and four 4-1’s. One of us isn’t going to make it. I manage to sneak in in fourth place. This means I play the undefeated player.

Round 6 vs. Omar S – Gardevoir/Flygon

Game 1: I’m able to Bright Look his Baltoy early and nail a couple key Power Sprays to lock him down. 1-0
Game 2: He doesn’t have a great start but makes a huge misplay early that cost him the game. 2-0

Round 7 vs. Alex P – Tyranitar

Game 1: This was a long grueling match that lasted over 35 minutes. He Spirtomb locked my trainers and three of my key cards were prized. When he finally brought Tyranitar out I was able to knock it out in two turns and the game shifted in my favor. He didn’t scoop so I had to finish it off. 1-0

Game 2: More of the same from the first game with locking and no attacking. I’m up three to six on prizes when time was called. 2-0
Finally, after two 2nd place finishes I’m able to pull out the victory. I’m overwhelmed with excitement and I have to give props to Alex for a great final versus a tough opponent.

Thanks to everyone for making it a fun day!

Good job!
Bit of advice: The enter key is your friend :) [space out the rounds so it's easier to read].

Bit of ADVICE: it's advice, not advance. [Spell check is your friend, makes it easier to understand what you're writing].

Anyways, good job Ivan! I'm glad you won. Can't wait to play you again, every round we play in a tourney is never boring or unexciting. Congrats!!!

Bit of advice: a parenthetical phrase goes before punctuation (like this). If you give it its own separate period, there is no need for the parentheses (or brackets, in your case).

oooo I wanna play!

"Bit of advice," as it is used in the context you have written cannot be a sentence fragment; the colons are misused. Instead, you use it as a title and begin a new sentence with the clause that you have following the colon.

For Example:

Bit of Advice:

A paranethetical phrase goes before . . .

___________ Anyway _________

I read your report the first time and missed the fact that you were playing LuxApe :/

Your meta was all over the place! Ttar in the top 2 ! How awesome is that for varitey!

Great Job. Here's wishing you similar success in the coming weekend of CCs

Cool story bro. ;)

Bit of advice: "bit of advice:" is being used to mimic natural speech patterns, in which "Here's a ..." or "Want a ... ?" prior the the phrase "Bit of advice:" is being implied.

Yes, I know "natural speech patterns" is the kind of grammatically weak cop-out they pull in Time Magazine, but I "couldn't've" resisted a chance to toss it at you.

I'll try and get on your Hamachi network some over winter break to test, if you'd like.
