My playmat stinks!

I bought a brand new playmat. This was never used before at all. It smells like burnt rubber or something idk lol. My question is. How do I get rid of the smell? I have it laying out. I took it out of the tube, and didn't put the lid back on the tube. Regionals is this Saturday and I really don't want to take it out, and start a breeze; and gross out my opponent. Does anyone know what to do? I don't want to ruin my mat. I love it.

sounds like the "new factory" smell rubber products have [keep in mind that bottom of playmats usually is a rubber material] - I'd suggest keeping it out and turning it over every so often [like every few hours]. You could also try a very lightly dampened cloth [wash rag] and wiping it down [start with the play side, then do the bottom].

Do you have a clothesline or some other place where you can put it out in the open air? Letting it air out overnight will help get rid of that burnt-rubber smell. Just make sure you do that on a day when it doesn't threaten to rain.
