on soul silver i started a new game and found out you cant save over the old game anymore can i delete the save file without loseing what i have so far

You can't save a new game until you delete the old save file. On deleting the old file, you delete everything you've done in the old file. If you want to save anything, i'd suggest you trade it off to another game before deleting. To delete the old file make sure you reset the Pokewalker first. Then press up, select, and B at the same time. Once it's deleted, you can't restore it.

ok i new most of that but before you could save over a old file with a new 1 y did they get rid of that does any1 know

To prevent someone from accidentally deleting a saved game file someone else wants to keep. I've had that happen on Ruby before.
