It's not...

Hopefully these will be like the ones from HP (I think), I kinda prefer these instead of sleeves because I never ended up using the sleeves.

But once you have one, do ever need another one? Not really. So more than one pre-release and the deck box's become irrelevant, whereas players can always use more sleeves.

Guys, think about it. We pay $25 for about 7 or 8 packs (forget). That is already a good deal. It is bonus that they throw in a promo and a deck box. Keep complaining and we may just get the packs. I prefer the deck box as it cannot get you in trouble. Who cares if you can drop it and it will break? At least it will not get you a game loss for breaking (like the sleeves). At least it will not come with 1/60 of a part missing.

^Hey, yeah. I'm not complaining about free stuff. As for the sleeves though, I would like at least 60. I still have my brand new pack of 58 sleeves from the platinum prerelease (and those were the good sleeves too).

My only problem is that if they can't hold cards with sleeves then they are pretty much useless. At least you can playtest with sleeves from PR.

yay, pokemon is getting cheaper!(once again)

I don't actually know, but I would make the argument that it's actually more expensive to print solid, hard-plastic deckboxes than it is to print sleeves.

You can definitely always use more. There'll be some people who have multiple people in their group that want one, or who want to trade/buy them, foreign players that can't get them, etc.

As has been previously discussed, there's no reason to believe that these will be unable to hold 60 sleeved cards.

Well, at least this shows that PCI is listening to the players ^-^

I'm psyched about the deckboxes, didn't want to see them go in the first place.

I always find uses for Deckboxes. Usually to store stuff I might end up using, other decks or just to carry around staples to build decks. For me the sleeves were poor quality (of SV-onwards) and I could never get passed a day with them.

Honestly, I am disappointed to see pre-release sleeves get replaced with deck boxes. Hopefully this is not permanent.

  1. Many players don't show up to PRs with their own sleeves. Now, either the PTO supplies them (which can't be expected), or many holographics are going to get scratched during the 4-6 rounds of the PR.

  • Not all PRs are held in hobby shops or card stores meaning that other sleeves may not be that easily purchased.
  1. PR Sleeves made great prizes! Many new players found a lot of use in winning a pack of PR sleeves at a City Championship or Battle Road.

    • Everyone enjoys winning bunches of packs of PR sleeves at Nationals and Worlds in the Pokemon League. I'm sure there are other items that can be given out, but many players won't need oodles of deck boxes.
    • Especially not if they already have a bunch of japanese pokemon deck boxes.

  1. PTOs may have a decent collection of older sets of PR sleeves, but I wonder about in the future at tournaments. I can't speak for anyone else, but I definitely would like to see all players using sleeves.

    • A few sleeves in a deck are potentially marked and the PTO doesn't have a fresh pack of PR sleeves to hand the player to resleeve their deck.
    • A new player shows up. A judge helps them put together a legal deck, but no sleeves are available to sleeve their deck.

  1. What sleeves are players supposed to use if they want to decorate their Pokemon deck in pokemon decorations?

    • Many players don't have access or the money to purchase japanese pokemon sleeves online.
    • Many of the older pokemon sleeves are illegal because of later rules concerning the designs printed on the sleeves.
    • There are very few actual pokemon sleeves sold in stores. Every now and then, an ultra pro design comes out, but not all hobby stores order them and they are very hit and miss at retail stores like Wal-Mart and Target.
There are just so many uses for PR sleeves and it's a shame to see them potentially get replaced with deck boxes that in my honest opinion serve a bit less use overall to the average player.

The reason people get JPN deckboxes is only half because they look cool, it's like saying "hi, get ready to have your face smashed in" when your opponent's decked out in their revival of lugia deckbox. Sleeves are always needed, deckboxes are not.

I rather have good quality sleeves than deck boxes. I guess if they can't produce good sleeves than it's best to try something else. I just don't see why the sleeves can't be good quality like they used to be.

What's the real use of a deck box? Sleeves have many good things going for them: conceal damaged cards, prevent scratches, funner to look at than a sea of Pokeballs and blue. Deck boxes look good, but they're unnecessary. For the two years I've been playing, I've never used a deck box, and I never planned on getting one, as I can just carry my deck.

I don't mind the deck box, though. It'd be my first one :D.

Have fun picking up your cards when you drop your deck.

So they're plastic?

I'm rather excited! Something I can actually display AND use at the same time? Thanks!

Edit: Replying to Prime, also not all Japanese sleeves are legal here. Such as the Walky collection sleeves...

Prime: At my PR we don't get Sleeves until we're done with the tourney.

It just sucks that you don't have a reason to go to more than one PR. I could always use an extra pack of sleeves, but an extra box?

I would bring my own sleeves to PRs anyway, and then just trade off my *sealed _____ PR sleeves*, I guess I'm picky about what pokemon are on them and such. Deck boxes, I hate buying those. Yet for me they're useful. To be able to store all of your decks in actual hard plastic boxes that protect the cards helps me out since I travel with my cards in a 'college sack' or whatever they call those bags everyone uses now.

Other players like having tons of sleeves and yes sleeves are very useful for many reasons.

It just comes down to preference. There's no 'huge mistake' or 'dropping the ball', I think either/or are good for prereleases. Heck, I might actually go to this prerelease even though I'm not playing competitively any more (for now).

Seing as it is likely that CoL is one set, we may get sleeves again for B+W.

Also, where does it say we aren't gettig sleeves?
