Hello everyone.

I've recently just gotten back into the Pokemon TCG. Never stopped playing the games or watching the show.

Now that I'm getting back into I've pulled out my old cards to realize I have only one deck, with no spares. So now my friend and I are out to buy us new decks and a couple boosters. Problem is I don't know where to start. Back in the day you could buy a pre-constructed deck for about $10. But these days I don't see those decks anymore. Maybe I'm not looking hard enough.

Anyways my question is. What should I buy since I'm having to start over again? I'll need lots of energy cards as well as all the new Pokemon cards and such.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I would suggest getting the Magmortar theme deck from Secret wonders since it has some pretty playable cards in it. I would also suggest buying booster packs from Secret Wonders, Mysterious treasures, and Great Encounters. Maybe buy some single trainers from Ebay since most of the good ones are from Dragon Frontiers and Crystal Guardians but those sets aren't really worth buying packs of. Hope I've helped:)

If you just want to start playing for fun, the best bet would be to find those pre-constructed decks. I'm pretty sure Target still carries them, and any other local card shops of course.

If you wanted to start playing competitively, your best bet would be to start grabbing singles for the deck that you want. There's a bunch of good deck ideas you can take from Deck Help right now, and it's pretty easy to find good sites that have singles for a steal.

Or you can do what I do and just bum cards off of friends and go to prereleases until you can start building up a collection. Whatever floats your boat.

Yes you can still get Pre-Constructed decks, which are called Theme decks. They cost about $11 each. Most of the good trainers are spread amongst many sets, including the sets no longer Legal to use. Currently the Modified sets for League play are from Holon Phantoms onward. Which are Ex Holon Phantoms, Ex Crystal Guardians, Ex Dragon Frontiers, Ex Power Keepers, D/P, D/P Mysterious Treasure, D/P Secret Wonders, and the recently released set D/P Great Encounters. Also Legal to play are Promos 026-039 any DP Promo 01 and up. Plus a range of older cards that were Reprinted in the Newer sets. As well as POP 4 on up. Depending on what deck you wish to make, depends on what sets to buy or Trade for.

I'm gonna have to stick to casual play. I don't believe their are any Tourneys or leagues around here. I've even checked a locater.

Thanks for all the answers and advice.

Also if I were to buy a box of boosters any suggestions on which one I should get?

Question about weakness. If a card has :fire:+40 on it. Does it do twice as much damage plus 40 more or does it only do 40 points of damage extra? And what if its just :fire:? Is it doubled then?

If a base attack damage is 20. and the weakess said +30, then it will be 50 to the Defending Pokemon.

If the pokemon do not have a +10,+20,+30,+40,x2 said on the card then its actually x2 which shows on older cards before DP release.

Ah! You live in my state. Fantastic!

Search by Country and State, and nothing else. Limiting to Zip Code narrows the search.

(Too bad there's no leagues in the Wake Forest or Raleigh areas.. :( )

buy a box of either Mysterious Treasures or Secret Wonders.Singles on ebay for Delcattys and other Pre DP cards are pretty cheap now so you should do that also.

the Theme decks from Secret Wonders are the best starter decks ever!
Buy a couple of those. I recommend Lava Flow. (contains magmortar)
