New rules vs Kingler (PF 14)

I use Kingler (PF 14) attack Guard claw my opponent uses a card to get Kingler (PF 14) out of the active, however keeps the active the same and uses an attack that does damage to a bench and chooses the Kingler (PF 14)that used Guard claw would Kingler (PF 14) have that damage reduced by 20 damage?

Or would it be cause that effect go away due to Kingler (PF 14) not being active anymore?

The protective effect is on Kingler. Once Kingler is sent to the bench, the effect goes away and it would take any damage done to it normally.
