Non-Professor wins Professor Cup!

He didn't enter to win the kindle, he entered to pass some time since his ride wasn't leaving for a while.
so he says in his 6p article...which was intended to make him look good with all the 'i wanted the kindle so i could give it to my dad for his birthday' and 'i'm selling everything because of our financial issues/college needs' statements. happy birthday dad, here's a kindle i won by lying my way into a tournament i had no right to participate in! aren't you proud of me and my playing skillz?!

so pretty interesting how in the 'beach forum thread linked somewhere in previous pages he's asking people how much they think the trophy would go for so he could GO TO WORLDS...

not to mention that if he was just looking for something to 'pass the time' there was league and side events going on =/ but those didn't have big prizes...

dude is talking out of both sides of his mouth, saying what he thinks people want to hear to make himself look as good as possible. look at his replies to the comments on the 6p article: first he's saying how 'sorry' he is to the people condemning his actions, next he's thanking the people congratulating him for putting one over on the man. why anyone would believe a word he says is beyond my understanding...

'mom =/

Oh, I missed that fact!

Everybody: It was to pass some time. Nothing to see here. Since it was just to pass some time, he's in the clear. :thumb:

Kev -

By putting that little Professor status under your name here on the gym, you are representing yourself as a Pokémon affiliate. Those are the facts.

Yes, a Pokémon affiliate. But not a Pokémon employee. And the "folks at TPCi" to whom you referred are not Figaro's boss. It is understandable that they would expect Figaro and other Professors like him not to publicly hurt the Pokémon brand. It is NOT, however, understandable that they expect Professors to refrain from expressing opposition to a decision made by TPCi.

TPCi and Professors are not one body; they are two parties enjoying a mutually beneficial relationship. The keyword which you used is "affiliate." Professors are affiliated with TPCi. They are not subordinate to TPCi.

By supporting and agreeing with what is clearly a very bad thing that this kid did, you are saying you OK with them. For those of you Professors who support this kid, think of it this way.

When you become a member of a group that has defined upstanding principles, (police, fire, medical (and don't debate the analogy please)), you represent that group. That would be like saying that, as a fireman, you agree with someone who does arson. Would you want that guy working for you? No.

Therefore, when Figaro openly supports this kid's bad actions, what does that say about him as a professor?

I mean, I can "not debate the analogy," but the analogy is the root of the problem. TPCi is no Professor's superior, but an affiliate. I can't get very far without disputing your analogy; but Dan Brandt himself has shattered the employer/ employee interpretation of the Professor program.

These "boss" analogies are so tilting.

Unlike many of you, not once have I ever considered POP my "boss" - it is a business partner and occasionally a friend, but never my "boss." Even in my capacity as a Professor I haven't, because our relationship is at-will and mutually beneficial: I promote their product, and they supply me with a reason to do so.

There is no "superior" or "inferior" unless you allow it.

For the record I agree with this. I'm not anyone’s "boss".

You are a master debater Kev. We can continue this at Worlds if you would like. I will say that your view of what is "harmless" is a very liberal view of things.

I don't want to start a huge argument, but Figaro's post is effectively harmless. It isn't going to damage sales, give Pokémon a bad reputation, or change the outcome of this fiasco. The only way it could hurt TPCi's reputation is if they strip him of his Professor status, because that would certainly cast them in a negative light (power tripping much?)

Oh Pop, how I do love your sarcasm. :)

I honestly don't know what to believe anymore. I actually thought he changed when he said he was going to give the stuff back and take the trophy off. Not only that, he said he was selling the trophy for college. Now he's doing it for worlds?

smh

I actually read he was selling it for worlds, then switched to say it was for college.

You're right. Didn't read the post date on it. My bad xD

Still pretty sad that he would go and sell it.

What else could he do with it?

"Oh hey everyone!!! Check this awesome trophy I technically stole!! Just gonna brag to the world, how great I am!

xD

The one time they get to play in a event and you cheat them out of a win!?... and on purpose too. Just go back to Yugioh.

@Box of Fail: I may not be anyone’s boss, but I am responsible to holding volunteers to our code of conduct. You may feel that painting Professors as elitist is harmless but I am far less appreciative. It certainly does the program no good to have its own members describing our thank you event for Professors with such negative phrases.

When I remove a person from our program for the good of the program, that is an example of me doing my job not power tripping.

Edit to add:
To be clear, my last is not directed at anyone specifically. I have already said what I intend to about the elitist comment: It is unappreciated.

The irony? He doesn't have to be banned. His name is so tarnished that no judge, PTO, professor, or player of worth will ever respect him again. Even now, his name is being made the joke of at least 4 sites I visit.

For people continuing to refine their opinions of Aydan, I just want to clarify that the earliest 6P comments are typically at the very bottom, as you can determine by the timestamp. The "newest" or "most popular" are usually sorted to the top. That's just the way the Disqus system threads the discussion.

That means he was initially thankful to the first posters commending him on the article, but then as the overall community disapproval became apparent, he changed his tone to contrition.

But the trophy still on eBay says it all, I think.

The trophy is also being bid on by 2 fake accounts, driving it as high as possible so nobody else will bid on it.
Btw it's not aydan's listing, stop attacking him over the fact that it's still up.

Given that he stated "I'm attempting to keep the prizes" in an interview published today, I think it's a totally fair discussion point!

Words =/= actions.

Heck, words =/= words!

How do you know its not AA's listing? Are you trying to say someone else put the listing up on ebay?

But it is his friend Zach's listing. In the original post, before the article was edited, Zach's name is clearly mentioned. And the eBay listing comes from "zachtcgs". That means Zach could easily be told to take the listing down.

That could be effective if Judges, PTOs, Professors, and players of worth knew his real name. I browsed through my event photos this morning, and looked at the Top 16 of the Professor Cup again. No "Aydan Aires" there, just a 7-0 undefeated "Justin Rike":

With a quick Google search of "Aydan Aires", this Regionals Tournament Report on 6P shows up, and in it he says his real name is Justin.

Man what a shame this guy had to do it =[ Also I feel bad for all the professors that played in this event. Hopefully next year there will be more research on how many points you have so the real professors can get in that actually have enough points to play ...

Thanks for the offer, but we have no interest in being the outsourced moderation for a site that chooses not to do it for themselves.

Look, I know you’re upset over the way 6P handled the situation. Heck, I am too. I was only promoted to mod of the front page as a result of this incident, and Adam was away the day it happened, hence there was no active FP mod during the blowup. Basically, I’m the guy that got elected to clean up after the tornado hit. I respect your decision, and I won’t pursue it any further, but did you really need to use sarcastic attacks on me to make your point? I’m just now walking in and trying to fix the mess people caused. Please don’t shoot me, I’m just the messenger. Thanks.

Sorry, didn't know you were new to the position.
One site offering another site IP addresses for members on their site regarding posts on the first site was a very unusual offer.
Chalk it up to inexperience in the face of a major mess.
