I'm ready for Fort Mill. This time I'll get plenty of sleep, and I'll bring a sandwich (or just eat at The Red Bowl - that's the name of the restaurant, right?). NC States was loads of fun. It was nice meeting new people and seeing old friends. The game is so much more fun right now (no Gardy/Gallade decks ruling the format). I mean, here's what the top 8 looked like: Kingdra, Machamp, Regigigas, "G Unit" (Weavile G, Toxicroak G, Skuntank G, Honchkrow G, etc.), Ampharos, Dialga G/Palkia G (I call it "DP," or "Cessation," since that's basically what it is), and something else. In fact...

Check this out, I looked up the thread from last year's States, and here's a quote of something I said about the game at the time:

What I saw today, however, was disconcerting... I saw three good players with three good rogues not even get into a top cut of 8. And I'm currently watching the "What Won States" thread as GG decks completely dominate the scene. I don't think my experience is an isolated incident either.

Also, I'm not trying to discredit anyone who is doing well with one of our 2/3 archetypes out there, trust me. Remember, I too have played both Blissey and GG this season, so I know what it's like to have to go with consistency. Besides, I have a feeling some people out there like those decks. I'm just pointing out the sad fact that our format has almost completely been dominated by 2 or 3 decks, and States is so far looking no different.

The sad thing is that things didn't really get better (GG won practically everything after States). Compared to that, right now is a wonderful time to get back into the game if you haven't played in awhile. Seriously, this year's State Championship was the funnest I've ever been to.

Also, a huge thanks to Jeff and Toni and the judges for always doing their best at these tournaments. Their dedication is evident when the tournaments last all day, the players get rowdy, and the rulings get tough. They absolutely rock.

Okay, I guess I need to get back to work now, haha. Oh yeah, thanks Fletched for the update on the rest of the top 4. And congrats on doing so well. :thumb:

I'll ask again for SC States: If anyone who lives near Emerald Isle can offer a ride for a friend of mine, it would be greatly appreciated. Please PM me if so.

I'd loan you one, but I've already got like 3-4 people borrowing cards from me.

Ask my brother though - that kid's loaded. Also, it'll be good to see you again, it's been awhile. Now all we need is Jake Burt, the Barlocks (all playing), the Hills, and a random appearance by Jim Ferrell. Ah, those were the good ol' days.

ugh i dont see Muk Man anywhere in there... im hurt...so hurt...:frown:

We are in the Charlotte area in a very nice Hotel (thx Expedia for the super deal!!!!!) Looking forward to seeing all my friends in the morning.

Good luck to everyone playing tomorrow, and hope for a very nice turnout. I will be staying in town playing with and helping out new players.
