Not being able to retreat under trainer-lock (HGSS-on)

I came to think of warp energy rotating out, and that not being able to retreat under trainer-lock becomes dangerous. Then I startet putting together cards in my head for a possible deck. Tropius UL+Vileplume UD+Pokémon Catcher+anything with an attack that stops the opponent from retreating (Spinarak is actually good in this case).

Could this be a viable strategy, or are there any counters better than Politoed UL (it's kind of heavy for a counter)?

you can try victreebel !!! it is far better than a spinarak, the drawback is that it is a stage 2...but still useful
also, a promo wobbuffet has the same body victreebel has

another counter than politoed may be switching attacks like granbull's timid tackle

vileplume ud + pokemon catcher is nonsense...you wont be able to use catcher since it is a good and vileplume locks it

Yeah, forgot about catcher. There is a way to use it tough. If you've got Vileplume and an Oddish benched, you can seeker, catcher, and rare candy to get the lock up again. The point of the combo is to stall (therefore Spinarak's attack is good) kind of like the Gliscor decks that were going around. Not that I'm a fan of those kind of strategies, but it is a strategy nontheless. If you can use catcher on a useless Pokémon (before getting Vileplume up or by avoiding the lock) like Shuckle and the opponent doesn't play grass energy it's pretty much game if they can't get out.

If anyone can find a good counter/loophole in this it would be appreciated, because I don't want these kind of decks to be possible to be honest.

have to wait a turn unless if you have another oddish out for a turn there is no counter besides politoad or if they have a switch attack

Yeah, I know that it has to stay in play a turn. The whole point of catcher is to drag out something useless that can't attcack (because even Smeargle can KO Spinarak after a few turns) and lock up.
