I need some help with a deck for a senior who plays all the time at home, but no league or tourney experience. He is going to a Black Friday CC tomorrow.

Pokemon
4 x Landorus EX
4 x Terrakion
2 x Bouffalant

Trainer/Supporter/Stadium
4 x N
4 x Colress
3 x Skyla
4 x Ultra Ball
3 x Bianca
3 x Eviolite
2 x Tool Scrapper
1 x Dowsing Machine - ACE SPEC
1 x Super Rod
4 x Max Potion
4 x Switch
2 x Float Stone
3 x Exp. Share

Energy
10 x Fighting Energy - Basic
2 x Double Colorless Energy - Special

Strategy is to make it easy to get out a Landorus EX early then on KO, Retaliate with Terrakion. Bouffalant is there fore 120 to EXs. This is a "keep Landorus up and doing damage" approach... with the Max Potions. Meanwhile let your energy drops keep going to the bench. This needs to be pretty simple for this relatively new player. Any help, especially with the trainers is appreciated. Does he need the scrappers? Should he have a stadium?

I'm not the greatest deckbuilder, and so normally I wouldn't chime in on this sort of thread. But it looks like you're looking for some last-minute sounding boards, so I guess I'll pitch in!

How comfortable do you think your player is with strategic discarding? Ultra Ball and Dowsing Machine are great choices for this deck, but I could also see you putting in some Heavy Ball and Scoop Up Cyclone instead. (Means your player has less/no way to search out Bouffalant though.) Occasionally I find new players will avoid using cards that require them to discard, for fear of making a mistake, and if your player is that type, might be worth it.

The Pokemon line reminds me of recent Landorus/Bouffalant/Mewtwo lists. How come no Mewtwo? (Maybe because this is a healing-based list, and Mewtwo tends to both KO and get KO'd quickly. I get that. But I do love my Mewtwo in anything with a DCE in it....)

Best of luck to your advisee tomorrow!

Great comments, Andy. You read me right. I'll try him out this morning and see if he can get the Discard > Dark Patch principle going. If not, I'm sure I have Heavy Ball with me, which will be perfect.
