Official Ban Gardevoir for Worlds 2008 Discussion

The fact that people are throwing out desperate rogues and suggestions that have been tried and failed shows that something should be done about the deck. I'm not GIVING UP, but this IS the best solution.

i guess its easier for us worlds players to sign a paper stating that we wont play GG instead of POP banning gardy/whatever.
but in the end of the day, we know that both wouldnt happen (even tough i'd easily sign such "document")

Yeah, I know, sadly. Thanks for the foreign support though!

They shouldnt Ban gardy, they should just give us a diverse format like Japan has and then GG probably wouldnt be played so much. I mean think about it, If people know they have a WIDE variety of cards to choose from, then the decks to choose form would be wider.

Keeping Legend Maker would have helped, agree!

That is a PERFECT solution. I notice you have said that before, Banette EX, Mew EX and others would be widely used!

A NEW petiton to a WIDER format, COME ON PEOPLE!

etc.

During the discussion about Wormadam, it was brought up that banning it was 'viable' because the Prof Cup was a small, one-time event. Isn't Worlds going to be of similar size or smaller than the Professor Cup? I mean POP has a list of basically ALL the participants, and contacting them wouldn't be much of a hastle. Its not like players will arrive with their Gardevoir decks if an Official Ban would be made with a good amount of notice. I think banning Gardevoir or making some restriction just for Worlds sounds reasonable.

We tasted LM-on in Brazil until January 1st of 2008, the format was set by the LD.
Unfortunatly on that time Blissey was the main deck, SW wasnt released here, but yeah, including LM would turn things

Gardy is a bit powerful but if they would have wanted to ban him they should have done it earlier. If they decided to ban him it would suck for all people who play him.

If they want to BAN a card they should do it about 1 month after release and not before worlds.

All freakin' year I've been trying to come up with a solution to the Gardy problem, and I've found NOTHING. Nothing seems to be a solid, perfect, 100 percent counter against this card. And in Swiss, it really is easy to take more time than needed for a turn because of all the options available to the Plox player. It is bad when such a deck is compared to Feraligatr, but let's consider something...Gatr did have a counter, it was called Erika's Victreebel. What's Gardy's counter? Magius isn't fast enough, Garchomp is inconsistent and has a tough time against Empo, and Banette is only good against Gardy, but even then a simple tech or a good Plox player will kill Ban.
This deck is worse than Gatr, and just as bad as Slowking, but I'd take Slowking over Gardy, which is really bad. I'm usually against banning cards, but Gardy is a big exception. And with cards like Gallade to back it up so that if you have to take something huge out, you can take it out without a problem. Dusknoir limits their bench so that they can't get the set up they may want, and provides the solution to coming back or winning the game. SOMETHING needs to be done.

Colin has a Point! But Banning would Really bring some fussing form A LOT of players.

The New format should be like Japan's. RFLG to IFDS or whatever. ATLEAST DS to IFDS, Sounds good to me!

All of you guys are right! But, I mean AFTR WORLDS, G/G is Not that GODLY of a deck anymore! It will open up Ne w Arches though, but nowhere near as BROKEN!

Other solution would be restricting to 4 copies of kirlia's evolution:
So people would play like: 2 gardy, 1 lv x and 1 Gallade. Wouldnt be too broken imo.

3rd place at Nats talking here. Just thought I'd remind everyone! He used Torterra! And is SUPPORTING it!

well i kinda agree with chad. banning seems a little extreme, but I think it should AT LEAST be eratta'd.

Psychic Lock is a broken attack. Like chad said, there is no way to get out of it unless you wanna be dumb and play Holon CIrcle, in which case you don't get to do anything and GG could easily counter it anyways. For this reason, I think that erratta-ing (is this a word?) Psychic Lock so that it places the effect on a pokemon, wheter its the gardy or the defending pokemon, so that you can at least have a CHANCE to break it. and gardy would STILL be a broken card; anything that can lock powers is pretty amazing in and of itself. and it has its power and the lv x to help it out too.

Something else I was thinking of was simply making gallade x2 weak to psychic. one of the main reasons counter decks have had trouble beating gardy consistently was because, if you were running a psychic deck (bannete, maismagius varients, etc), you had to choose wheter to lock special energies with Crystal Beach or to get that KO on the stupid gallde with the lake boundary. really, gallade is what keeps these decks at bay. the possibility of a scramble or dre out of nowhere is too powerful, and is the reason gg can still have a cake walk with a deck made to counter it. if x2 weak, bannete, mismagius, and other psychic pokemon would actualy be able to play their Beaches and still get to oneshot the gallade.

considering both cards are already broken as they are, it seems fair that at least ONE of these cards needs to be watered down a bit.

I don't really know what else to say besides what Chad said in his original post and his replies. Almost all the "elite" players would back this, you've got 2nd 3rd 4th from US Nats supporting it. ;/

I might explode if I hear it will "upset a ton of players" one more time. There's what, about 140 players in U.S. Masters at Worlds? There's already been something like 10-15+ that have qualified for Worlds in Masters that are supporting this in this VERY THREAD!

even after worlds gardy will still be a problem as she will have nice new friends and physic lock cannot be got out of
banning now would suck as i worked so hard up to uk nats to try and find an answer to this deck and my only semi consistant answer was magmortar/garchomp as it helped cover the other big decks i was expecting to see various mags, emploleon, eevees and other random stuff and it would be a smack in the face now for all of us across the world that didn't get a fair shot if they did ban her for worlds
the best long term solution would be to erratra her as someone very clearly missed this in testing

Great post Chad.

Even though I have played and had success with Gardy, I would support a ban of Gardy. Everyone has been trying for MONTHS to build a solid counter to it, and it hasn't worked. There's just too many facets to the deck.
