Old Defender and Self Damaging Attacks

Hi! I got a question about old Defender and self damaging attacks (Some Wobuffet, Torterra Lv X, another kamikazes Pokemon :lol

The self damage is reduced? Note that Defender isn't reedited in newer sets, then i think its text is played like the cards say:

Attach Defender to 1 of your Pokemon. At the end of your opponent's next turn, discard Defender. Damage done to that Pokemon by attacks is reduced by 20 (after applying Weakness and Resistance.)

Unless and until it is reprinted with updated text, you are correct. It protects against self damage.
