[gal= 54920]authenticated online pairings[/gal]
PokeGym.Net is pleased to announce that the PokeGym.Net/stadium online pairings service for the Pokémon U.S. National Championships had 947 PokeGym Members opt-in and 920 National's competitors use it at the event. Your comments on this service are welcome in this discussion thread.

The event is now over, and the profile field has been hidden, so that we don't further solicit PlayerIDs until we evaluate the future of the service with TPCi. We hope to be invited to make it available again at the World Championships in August.

PokeGym.Net is pleased to announce the continued availability of the PokeGym.Net/stadium online pairings service, now including the Pokémon U.S. National Championships.

We've been asked to provide password security for the pairings at this event, so to opt in to using online pairings at Nationals you will need to input your PlayerID in the "Additional Information" section of your UserCP profile details. In order to be prepared, we recommend you enter your PlayerID in advance rather than wait until you arrive at the event.

More information on using the PokeGym.Net/stadium service during U.S. Nationals will be available on the front page of PokeGym.Net shortly before the event.

FAQ:
  • Will there be WiFi? There hasn't really been in the past, so this is mostly for smartphones, I would think.
  • Is this also for VGC? That's the plan.
  • How do I know if my PokeGym account is fully registered/activated? If you can post you're good to go.
  • Is this for all age groups? Yes.
  • Can we see other people's pairings? Not for this event, except at the pairings boards. To look up multiple players on a single phone, there's a workaround of letting each person log into a different browser on your phone, then switching between browsers.
  • How do I know if I'm ready to use the authenticated online pairings? Visit The Stadium now to see if it greets you by name.

This is awesome news. I'm extremely happy this is being implemented! Is there any WiFi in the convention center, though? My only concern is that nobody will be able to actually access the pairings.

If there is wifi, do they charge for using their service? Unless its free, I'm not paying to look at pairings from my mobile device even though it's convenient.

This is great news. Props to Carlos Pero for taking the initiative and designing this software. It's great to see it make its way to large tournaments like U.S. Nationals, where it is most needed.

Would the players be able to see other pairings as well, or just your own?

Would non participants be able to view the pairings? ie Parents

Is this going to be available for all age divisions?

Yeah, we had it at NE regionals too, totally awesome.. let's you see the records of your past opponents too.

I'm wondering though will I be able to see my kids pairings or will they each have to have pokegym accounts too?

My first experience with this was at Maryland States. I absolutely love the idea. Thanks to the people who got it working and the people at TPCI who decided to use it at Nationals>

Is there another thread I can look for that explains how the service works now (reference was made to its "continuing availability")?

As a player? You will just need to be logged into PokeGym on your smartphone and then go to http://pokegym.net/stadium

If your PlayerID is properly registered in your Profile here, the Stadium will recognize that and show you the next steps on the day of the tournament.

(I'll be setting up a test page soon, so people can rest assured they are ready.)

It would be nice if we could make this integrate with an Android or iPhone with push notifications via an app. So the TO would upload the info, and you'd get a push notification of what table you were at. I think this can be done it would make things even better and smoother.

I've thought about it, and that benefit alone is marginal. It's not difficult enough now to just click Reload in your browser. I appreciate the suggestion, though. I can imagine an app in the future, but it would likely do more too.

If the convention has WiFi, it probably does cost money. The primary use will be via cellular. The Stadium pages are designed to be lightweight.

Great questions. Yes, it will be available for all age divisions.

The primary use case we've been trying to address this year is expediting an individual player getting to their assigned table as quickly as possible. Because of the additional authentication required via PokeGym account, that makes other uses cases more challenging. It also means you won't see the other pairings underneath your own. It's just going to look like the information on the screenshot above, but without the field to enter a Player ID.

In short, a PokeGym account can hold one Player ID. If you need to be able to login and lookup multiple Player IDs, you need to set up a PokeGym account for each player. Accounts created for players under age 13 need to follow the COPPA guidelines, which PokeGym explains as you begin the registration process.

If you have multiple players but only a single smartphone, you can only login to one account at a time. You can plan ahead by downloading alternate Web browsers for your smartphone operating system (feel free to post suggested apps!) to be able to handle more than one by just switching browsers.

I've been updating the FAQ section of the topic post with answers to many of the questions.

Just to clear this up you can access the UserCP here in the pokegym in the upper LH corner at the top of any page.

Looks great, just got the message out to all the VGC players who may not have accounts on PokeGym yet. Thanks for all the great work everyone, really looking forward to using this this year!
